The 9/11 Mosque

Legal doesn’t equal ‘right’

It's hard to understand the Muslim insistence on building a mosque near the 9/11 site. Barack Obama is correct in saying they have the legal and constitutional right to build their mosque, but just because they have the right, doesn't mean they should.

Rights and politics, in this case, should take a back seat to the emotional scars of the families and friends of those who died in that atrocity and the trauma of the police, fire and medical personnel who survived it. If they had any consideration for the feelings of their fellow New Yorkers, and any sense of gratitude for living in a free society, these Muslims would build their mosque somewhere else. They should also keep in mind that there are some non- Muslim extremists too. (Remember Timothy McVeigh?). So if they insist in building their mosque near the 9/11 site, they'll have to guard it 24/7. William Bedford
