Olympics aftermath

Let us vow to keep “Our Inner Olympic Flame” lighting our way

Those of us who remember the mass euphoria generated by Expo 67 and the early reign of Pierre E. Trudeau must have had a feeling of De-ja-vue during the recent, most wonderful Olympic Games ever for Canada.

In fact, the Vancouver Olympics lit a flame of unity and all-round good feeling that surpassed the excitement of the Expo 67-Trudeau period. But, a word of caution: When Expo 67 ended and Trudeau lost his charismatic-glow, Canada reverted to its traditional laid-back role. Let's hope that the great national can-do feeling ignited by the Vancouver Games will not fade this time. Let us vow, regardless of how we fare in future, international games of any kind, to keep "Our Inner Olympic Flame" lighting our way to excellence in every direction every day.. William Bedford
