Liberal blowhard Alan Grayson accused of shoving wife into door

I guess we need to say up front that there are two sides to every story, and Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson denies that he shoved his wife. He also has purported eyewintesses (although, granted, they work for him) who presume to corroborate his denial.
But one thing I think it's fair to say just from the guy's history of behavior is that Grayson is - how shall I put this diplomatically? - a rather prickly individual. It should hardly come as a surprise, then, that things in his personal life don't appear to be terribly docile:
The incident occurred Saturday at the Graysons' home in Orlando, just weeks after Lolita Grayson filed for divorce from the congressman. The Orange County Sheriff's Office is currently conducting a domestic violence investigation, and Rep. Grayson has not been arrested or charged in connection to the incident. In a petition for the injunction filed on Monday, Lolita Grayson described an altercation where Rep. Grayson "deliberately and with force pushed [her] very hard against the front door, causing [her] to fall to the ground as a result," according to the Sentinel. Lolita Grayson then pushed her husband in the face and kneed him in the stomach "in order to protect and defend herself." She then called 911. The document also alleges that "from time to time" Rep. Grayson "has battered [her] and the parties' minor children." A statement released by Rep. Grayson's office to the Sentinel claims it was Lolita Grayson who initiated the "violent assault."

"Sadly, it was Ms. Grayson who physically attacked the Congressman as he attempted to visit with his children. He did not respond to Ms. Grayson's violent assault," the statement said. This seems like a good time to remember some of Grayson's more interesting comments, including one that charges across the line into personal judgment against Dick Cheney. There are from his liberal friends at Mother Jones, by the way. Here's what he said about Cheney:
"I have trouble listening to what [Dick Cheney] says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he's talking . . . he's just angry because the president doesn't shoot old men in the face. But by the way, when he was done speaking, did he just then turn into a bat and fly away?"
What has always made Grayson so obnoxious is not just that he's liberal. There are plenty of liberals who are wrong ideologically but are perfectly nice people and can be disagreed with in a civil manner. The problem with Grayson is that he makes the disagreement personal by taking his political opponents and turning them into personal horrors. That is probably not a good idea when, as it turns out, your own personal life is a mess. Then again, it's typically the same kinds of personal flaws that lead to both.
