Sigh.
I have said this before and I’m going to say it again. The Democrats are the party of BAD ideas and the Republicans are the party of NO ideas.
In Chicago, which is the modern-day equivalent of the wild, wild, west, another bad idea has arisen. Alderwoman Maria Hadden, is promoting a proposal from a group called the Native Sons “asking” gang members to restrict their shooting to between the hours of 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM.
Can anyone see gang members following these rules? In fact, they are probably still laughing hysterically. Seriously, can’t you just picture a gang leader addressing his crew, “Hold it boys, just relax, it isn’t 9:00 yet.” The could even announce it over loudspeakers: Attention! Attention! It is now 9:00 PM, Gang Warfare and Random Shootings Can Now Commence!
Hadden was re-elected in February of this year. She campaigned as the first black queer woman to be elected to city council. So her view is obviously clouded by “wokeness.”
Tatiana Atkins, who identifies by the pronouns she/her, is the co-founder of Native Sons, a community activist group. “Protect the youth no sliding while the sun is out,” reads a flier for the proposal, known as “The People’s Ordinance.” The promo also includes an image of a white picket fence dappled with colorful clouds and a plea: “Don’t shoot! I want to grow up.”
Atkins defended the proposal saying, “We have to start somewhere. Our goal is to approach our city’s gun violence problem strategically and not all at once. Things didn’t become this way overnight and change won’t happen overnight.”
“Under this ordinance, we ask that people stop associating with and “glorifying shooters,” stop glorifying “switches,” and stop wearing those ski masks everywhere which perpetuates you as some opp. When those who live a certain lifestyle try to hang with “regular” class citizens, they put everyone at risk.”
If you’re like me, I didn’t understand some of the “street” lingo that Atkins used. So I did a little investigating. “Switches” are the small devices, about the size of a nickel, are called Machinegun Conversion Devices (MCDs) or “switches,” and they fit right into the 9 mm Glock handgun to allow the weapon to fire off an entire magazine in just seconds. Opp is a slang abbreviation of the word "opponent" or "enemy." It is commonly used to refer to someone who is viewed as an adversary or someone with whom one has a conflict or disagreement.
Atkins continued:
“If people know that after a certain hour, the likelihood of them being shot by an unknown and unprovoked assailant are at a higher risk, they will be less likely to be out and about, and they may become more proactive with the supervision of their children. At the end of the day, 5-year-olds are being killed by gun violence, 14-year-olds are being killed by gun violence, 78-year-olds are being killed by gun violence, pregnant women are being killed by gun violence, young boys with bright futures are being killed by gun violence, fathers are being killed by gun violence, and this shouldn’t be happening.”
“I myself have reached out to active gang members in regards to this ordinance and have had more positive feedback than negative and have even had some of them (a small few) post this ordinance to their social media as well. We live in a trend society, let’s get the right things trending, the more media, government officials, and community residents believe in this ordinance and stand behind it, the more likely the people will align with the ordinance.”

This is absolutely pure fantasy. We’re talking about having law abiding families off of the streets by 9:00, so the thugs can have their time. Have you ever heard of a family dinner? How about taking your kids out for ice cream? This is just the kind of liberal, ridiculous thinking that plays directly into the hands of immorality.
Here’s a better idea. Stop defunding police and making the job so tenuous that no-one even wants to join the force. While your at it, prosecute the damn criminals and stop putting murderers, rapists, and child molesters back on the street.
In February, it was reported that Chicago had the highest number of homicides for a major city in the U.S. in 2022. Chicago had 697 total homicides; Philadelphia had 516, New York City had 438, Houston had 435, and Los Angeles 382. The report also stated that Chicago had led the nation for 11 consecutive years.
Either get serious about crime or stop watching “Purge” movies. This punishes the innocent and empowers the killers.
From this point on, Chicago needs to see every election day as judgement day.
Why, … because it is.
