Tariffs are sensible. Giving up our sovereignty just to consume foreign goods is untenable and must end

Listening to WarRoom this morning, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Peter Schiff made it abundantly clear that he has a globalist viewpoint, with no faith in the American people other than to be exceptional consumers of foreign products who should continue to be reliant on imports. It was evident that he preferred trading with other nations and paying their tariffs and VATs, etc. than reclaim our manufacturing capacity to provide for our own.
His argument was typical of the liberal libertarian outlook that focuses on personal gratification of perceived “needs.” This is the reason most libertarians believe that pacifying individual wants, such as illicit drug use, doesn’t affect others, that these are victimless infractions, or perhaps greater crimes.
Although he was willing to state that the trillions of debt and deficits must be addressed, he wasn’t willing to flatly say that massive cuts must be made in administrative agencies other than targeting Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare (Medicaid), and Social Security programs.
The self-centered perspective came out as he said he’d give up his Social Security, which leads to the assumption that it’s because he’s able to do so. However, there are others who are not so financially secure (and this is from someone—myself--who doesn’t engage in federal programs).
What Schiff also espoused was that, essentially, it isn’t worth undergoing hardship even if it means re-invigorating self-reliance, and experiencing the satisfaction of productivity instead of simply supplying a customer base and investment for foreign entities.
Consuming goods and services alone is not a path to health and security. It is the opposite. It is a road to social devolution by being at the mercy of other nations that have no interest in the wellbeing of the United States of America and its citizens. Nor is it the duty of other nations to care.
It is our duty and providence to look after our families and nation with God’s guidance to be productive and serve one another, which we, as Americans, are generous with provision for the less fortunate overseas. No other nation takes such service as seriously as do Americans.
Handing foreign nations dominion over us, by paying the price they set to hollow out our fortunes, steal assets, and sell us their trinkets, is folly at the highest level.
Trump is right, and it is necessary we support him for carrying out the mandate we gave him to slash the overspending and bring industry back to our own shores. Tariffs are sensible. Giving up our sovereignty just to consume foreign goods is untenable and must end.
