British police have spent nearly £750,000 on the search for Madeleine McCann, it was revealed on Monday.

Leicestershire Police accounts show that in the last financial year it spent £197,000 on its investigation, on top of £548,000 in 2007/2008. The force has recouped £525,000 from the Home Office, and a claim for the rest of the money has been filed. Read more:
