A major solo exhibition takes place in Scotland from April 26 until May 20, 2014.

Well known Scottish artist George Devlin will be exhibiting around 50 paintings mainly of the Languedoc-Roussillon and the Val d'Oise regions of France at the Billcliffe Gallery in Blythswood Street, Glasgow. “I have been working in the Val d’Oise for 25 years and the locals treat me as one of their own; so much so that the French postal service, La Poste, used five of my images to promote the area, where I also exhibit,” says George Devlin, an elected member of the RSW (The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour), RGI (The Royal Glasgow Institute), RBA (The Royal Society of British Artists), ROI (The Royal Institute of Oil Painters), RWS (The Royal Watercolour Society) and FRSA (Fellow of the Royal Scottish Academy). He is just one of five artists in Britain elected to both the Royal Watercolour Society and to The Royal Scottish Watercolour Society. “Like many artists I work in a range of media as the concept seems to dictate,” he says. “At one point this triggered a series of etchings since I sensed a poetic connection between the bite of acid on metal and the sea eroded foreshore I was working on. Another such occasion gave rise to a series of ceramic sculptures, as seemed appropriate.” He adds: “Equally, I believe that if oils are the full symphony then watercolour is the string quartet and is therefore charged up with that delightful frisson of having to work expressively and precisely with the bare bones; a high wire act with no safety net which is simultaneously a challenge and a refining process.” Images: Azillanet La Poste
