During the second day of the Democratic National Convention today, former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland proposed a motion to amend the party’s platform to include mention of “faith in God” and to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Both have been the subject of controversy among Republicans who believe the omissions were deliberate political statements that are not in line with what most Americans believe. “I come before you today to discuss two important matters related to our party’s national platform,” Strickland said from the convention floor. “As an ordained United Methodist minister, I am here to attest and affirm that our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the values we’ve expressed in our party’s platform.” More...
