In respect of the deadly Orlando shooting, I absolutely believe a gun is an inanimate object and that the motivation of the user is the issue. In the army-on the very first DAY my instructor told me that my sole purpose as an infantryman was to kill. He did not mention my battle rifle or any of the weapons I was trained to use.
To kill as the Staff Sergeant suggested, it could have been my bare hands which I was also trained to use to kill.
One can kill with just about any kind of inanimate object - from a newspaper to a toothbrush to an airliner. Anything can be used for nefarious reasons. It just sits there minding its own business until someone decides to put it to use, good, bad or indifferent. So there you have it.
But before I leave this topic, please know that the shooter/killer in Orlando did NOT use an AR-15 assault rifle at all.. In actuality he used a Sig Sauer 5.56mm semi-automatic Sporter rifle-just as deadly for sure-but NOT an AR-15 and definitely not an AK-47-as so often quoted by the media in their stories. How many of you will even mention the truth of the matter? You know that truth you have sworn to uphold in your chosen career?
