More tax money needed for Goodman’s Mob Museum

On Thursday morning, the City of Las Vegas quietly posted an obscure "routine" item - No. 28 - on the City Council's Consent Agenda. The item can be approved in a single motion without public input along with dozens of other "routine" items per city code.

"MATTERS LISTED ON THE CONSENT AGENDA ARE CONSIDERED TO BE ROUTINE AND HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED FOR APPROVAL BY THE SUBMITTING DEPARTMENTS. ALL ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA MAY BE APPROVED IN A SINGLE MOTION." The verbiage for item No. 28 states: "The scope of work has increased on this project (Mob Museum) and the project completion date for the general contractor has been extended. As a result, the construction management services provided for under this contract must also be extended. This amendment provides for an addition 270 days of construction management for the project, from 475 days to 745 days. Amount: $438,173.55, Funding Source: Parks and Leisure Activities CPF, Dept./Division: Public Works." The certain approval of the above expenditure brings the total outlay of public funds for Goodman's Mob Museum to an amazingly wasteful $14,271,340.42! image The location of Goodman's Mob Museum is directly next to the soon-to-be abandoned circa 1973 City Hall, and across Stewart Ave. from the shuttered Lady Luck Hotel and Casino, which will make the Mob Museum the only attraction in the soon-to-be blighted area of downtown. In the meantime, the City of Las Vegas is so broke that Goodman is requiring city employees time in service to be cut back to a four day work week. And another Mob Museum is about to upstage Goodman's! It's on the LV Strip which will make this town famous for having not one, but two testaments to the scum of the earth. No wonder Las Vegas can't attract new high tech industry! God save our city.
