Look beyond the rhetoric and even the disappointment and get behind Mitt Romney—because to not do so would be to condone evil

Most Evangelicals Will Back Romney

Don’t listen to the Evangelical Romney Rhetoric which has been a prime topic of political musings by leftists and even some on the right. The often repeated storyline goes something like this: Evangelicals are not warming to Romney (after having backed Santorum) and many might just not participate in the upcoming election—or may concentrate heavily on congressional races and not the presidency.
This is total crap. As a preacher and also a former pastor let me repeat that. Total crap. The truth is that real Christians (not CINOs), whether Catholic or Protestant, truly doubt the faith of Barack Obama. And even though most evangelicals know that Mormonism is not truly Christian, would rather be rid of the current resident of the White House than suffer four more years of socialist policies and further attempts to marginalize the church. The vast majority of evangelicals may even be wary of Romney’s RINO label, but are far more motivated by cleaning out the current administration. How do I know this? First, I am connected to several Christian organizations that are not shy about making their political preferences known both within their memberships and in their public discourse. Secondly, almost all of the active organizations are very conservative in nature—even to the point of condemning a number of policies which the Obama administration has put into practice that also are contrary to God’s laws.

If you think true practicing Catholics have turned against Obama in the wake of recent rulings concerning contraception—you should know that the majority of Protestants not only sympathize with them, but are ready to show up in record numbers at the polls. When people like Tony Perkins bemoan Romney as the eventual nominee—they may be sincere in that they would rather have a social conservative facing Obama. But reality trumps desire. Even evangelicals know that this election offers a stark choice between a certain decline into socialism or a return to economic prosperity and religious freedom. Evangelicals can be a whiney bunch, but they aren’t so stupid as to allow feelings to get in the way of cleaning out the White House in November. You see, even among Christian types, it all comes down to being liberal or conservative. There are liberal Christians who long ago left God and have since been wandering in the desert of social activism. There are conservative Christians who are not only faithful followers of Christ, but realize His commission was all about saving souls and had nothing to do with any government being the source of their salvation. Remember, Jimmy Carter carried a Bible, taught Sunday school, and is still making news with some of the most inane and ungodly comments. He doesn’t represent the majority of believers in this country. Neither does Tony Perkins. True believers are not swayed by politicians nor are they influenced by moralistic Christian talk hosts. They will look beyond the rhetoric and even the disappointment and get behind Mitt Romney—because to not do so would be to condone evil.
