Mrs. Palin’s Declaration of Independence

Sarah Palin, by virtue of her resignation and remarks, has now positioned herself to disrupt the status quo and send much needed shock waves through the entire American political system. It should not be lost on anyone that she made her resignation announcement on the eve of the most important anniversary in American history, the Fourth of July.

There is a fundamental fact that is often overlooked about the Declaration of Independence. It was a declaration of war. Mrs. Palin has stated her position clearly:
“And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn’t run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and ‘milk it.’ I’m not putting Alaska through that – I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! That’s not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old ‘politics as usual.’ I promised that four years ago – and I meant it.”
Liberal pundits who read this statement as anything other than a declaration of war on the status quo do so at their peril. Mrs. Palin, you are now free of the Republican Party per se. It needs you more than you need it. To say that the Republican Party, on its own, has a charismatic void is a vast understatement. You are now free to wage all out war on the status quo. More importantly you are free to make a Reagan-esque Conservative alliance on your terms. At the risk of being presumptuous, I would suggest the following lines of attack for your war against the Democrats and the Obama/ Pelosi / Frank/ Dodd Economy. Free market capitalism must be emphasized as our only true hope for recovery -- not the crony capitalism of the Democrats.

Energy Policy:

Mrs. Palin, you must continue to push your energy policy for Alaska and the Country. We are going to need to fully exploit all of our energy resources for the foreseeable future. We must pursue drilling in ANWR, nuclear power, off-shore drilling. We need it all. We know that subsidized green jobs destroy more than twice as many productive jobs than those they pretend to create. Green jobs end when the subsidy does. We no longer have the luxury of wasting time and money on 8th century B.C. technologies. We are going to have to double or triple our GDP in order to offset the generational theft of the Obama Democrats. Entitlement spending has left us $70,000,000,000,000.00 (trillion) in debt. WW II ended the Great Depression. This proved one unassailable point: In the end, a nation has to actually manufacture products the world needs, even if it is the materiel for waging war. We can not shuffle lawsuits and bureaucratic red tape forever and expect to remain the greatest economic power on Earth.

Term Limit Congress:

The concept of true public service must be returned to government. American politicians need to fear the voters again. Mrs. Palin make it your highest priority an end gerrymandering. Call for an end to “Safe Seats” for all parties. Mrs. Palin call for the shortest-split line algorithm for drawing congressional districts. Draw new congressional districts within the shortest radius and circumference possible using existing county boundaries. The country cannot be salvaged as long as those in “safe” districts continue undermine our founding principles. Congress must only be allowed to meet in Washington, D.C. annually for a maximum of three months. This is the geographic dispersal of special interest corruption. Senators and Congressmen and women must spend a minimum of 190 days in their districts or states.

Repeal Government over-regulation of everyday American life:

Americans must stop relying on the government regulation to keep them financially safe. Just as the Police can not be every where, neither can the SEC nor any other government regulator. Bernie Madoff was not the biggest Ponzi scheme perpetrator. FDR, LBJ, any Democratic controlled congress since 1933 are. The combination of the entitlement debt and the debt that Obama has perpetrated is so massive that it could not be paid in full in thirty years if 100% of the federal budget were used to pay it off. The contrast must be made between those who were left penniless by their faith in Madoff and those who refuse to see the bankruptcy of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Call for the elimination of all federal czars and their bureaucracies, for all time.

Taxes:

Mrs. Palin, the Founders knew that taxing the fruits of one labor was the road to tyranny. Otherwise, they would have included the language of the Sixteenth Amendment as an original part of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. The Constitution makes it clear that taxes (tariffs) were to be levied on the purchasing side of the economy and not the production side. Call for a flat fair tax for all Americans, worded in such a way that changing it would require a 75% majority and any progressive aspects would be in direct violation of the Fourteenth Amendment. Why should one man’s liberty be worth more than any others? On a flat percentage basis, the rich automatically pay more. Permanently end corporate income tax, the death tax. Capital gains taxes should be taxed at the lowest rate in the industrialized world. The combined federal, state and local tax burdens should never be allowed to exceed 20% of GDP, except by specifically voted on “Emergency Legislation” passed by 75% of Congress and always having a sunset provision. FICA and Social Security taxes should not be comingled in the general fund. Baseline budgeting must be eliminated.

The Judiciary:

All parts of those laws passed by Congress found to be unconstitutional must be severable and returned to the appropriate legislative body with constitutional recommendations. The constitutional portions should be left intact and enforced. Eliminate standing to environmental groups to bring lawsuits on behalf of the general public. Eliminate federal control of education -- this belongs to state and local governments.

Return to Federalism:

Call for constitutional original intent to again be the law of the land as it regards to political speech, religion, treaties, and foreign entanglements.

Border Protection:

End illegal immigration and protect both of our borders. Now is the time to be creating American jobs and create foreign jobs and stronger foreign economies by encouraging free trade. End the welfare application of the Fourteenth amendment to illegal aliens, in order to end chain migration.

Abortion:

Apply the same end of life argument to the question of when life begins (when there is a brain wave). Make abortion a “States Rights” issue where it properly belongs. Would we need to import foreign workers if we had not killed 45,000,000 American children in the years since Roe? Strong foreign policy based on the pre-emptive Bush Doctrine – return to a War on Terror footing until the Islamo-fascists are sufficiently neutered. Align yourself with Vice President Dick Cheney. Openly seek his advice and counsel because he will be seen as America’s Churchill after the next Islamofascist attack on the United States or its assets. Mrs. Palin, you ended your remarks with: “In the words of General MacArthur said, ‘We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.’” Mrs. Palin: Now is the time to think and plan like General Douglas MacArthur at Inchon.
