Some people really should not be left alone with a Bible.

MSNBC rips Sarah Palin for . . . wait for it . . . having a Christmas tree

I don't suppose there's any point delving too deeply into the supposed substance of what you're about to see. It's Sarah Palin. It's MSNBC.

You know what's going to happen. Palin could tell you to have a nice day and they would come up with a reason it proves her hypocritical, evil and dumb as a box of rocks. It's just what they do. So is it surprising, even a little, that they come up with a way to attack her for having a Christmas tree? Not at all, my friends. They will go anywhere they need to go in order to find a way to cast aspersions on Palin, even if it means reading a book they would normally never read: Between this and Rob's piece about MSNBC saying the love of Jesus is "homoerotic," I guess this ratings-challenged channel has decided to cartoonize itself in an desperate attempt to get some viewers. As Rob said, it's like Saturday Night Live is writing the whole thing as a parody. But it appears the cast members think it's real. It's like if you put someone on to host Weekend Update but didn't tell them the script was actually a gag. They say this crap without the slightest sense of irony. And you want to be careful when you let the likes of Joy Reid loose with a Bible, not that it wouldn't be a great thing for her to read it in search of God's Word. But that's not how she reads it. She reads it in search a way to score cheap political points against someone she doesn't like. Satan used to quote Scripture that way too. And as usually happens when secularists quote the Bible, they don't know what they're talking about. That's why they prattle on about shellfish in the Old Testament when you quote 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 in reference to homosexuality. They don't know the difference between ceremonial law and moral law. They don't even know the two exist and are distinct from each other. So they spew nonsense and they're totally convinced they're making a valid point. In this case, Reid is taking a teaching against idolotry and applying it to the simple matter of a holiday decoration. Look at Jeremiah 10:1-10, which Reid ignorantly quotes:
1 Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel. 2 This is what the Lord says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them. 3 For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. 4 They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. 5 Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.” 6 No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. 7 Who should not fear you, King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you. 8 They are all senseless and foolish; they are taught by worthless wooden idols. 9 Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz. What the craftsman and goldsmith have made is then dressed in blue and purple— all made by skilled workers. 10 But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.
God doesn't care if you decorate your house with a tree. He cares if you make a god out of that tree. He cares if that thing becomes more important to you than He is - like, say, if you care about ripping on political adversaries more than you care about God. Then this is your god. Joy Reid might want to take note. A tree is just a tree, unless you start getting the idea that you should fear it, that it can do things for you, that you can profit by worshiping it. The nations surrounding Israel thought they could receive blessings from inanimate, man-made things, just as they thought they could glean heavenly revelation from the skies. God warned Israel to look to Him and only Him for such things. Sarah Palin understands this perfectly well, which is why her Christmas tree doesn't present any sort of issue between her and God. Joy Reid doesn't understand it at all, and doesn't want to. She just wants to pick out something in the Bible that she can use to it as a weapon against Palin. She doesn't care if she's getting right or not, as long as it's effective in achieving her political objective. So she probably also wouldn't understand if I were to reference Matthew 6:2 where she is concerned: She has received her reward.
