Trending outrage and grief over the recent murder of the Wits Inn bar security officer in midtown New Orleans is a wake upcall to enablers in city hall to stop "letting the good times roll" without oversight.

The suspect allegedly left a nearby bar about whom neighbors have endlessly complained, with that area's city council member confirming these concerns in public and noting official inaction from city hall.

Complicit city government, like community enablers, mistakenly feel bars with deafening sound systems, legions of loud loiterers, trash saturating streets and sidewalks and frequent fighting are treasures whose pristine perfection shouldn't be touched.

As a bar and event protection professional, I know beyond a shadow of doubt where such enabling ends: in individual shootings or worse, mass casualty events as egotists escalate their egotism to the point of no return.

Special occasions and alcohol beverage outlets outlets are reflections of communities and communities whose violent egotists are not sufficiently charged and prosecuted inevitably have occasions and outlets targeted by this violent egotism--no need to be fictional private detective Easy Rawlins to figure this out.

The slain bar security officer was active in local advocacy, which brings greater scrutiny to volatile situations being swept under the rug.

As this case evolves, one thing is abundantly clear: the murder of this New Orleans security officer while protecting his bar is a wake up call to stop "letting the good times roll", without oversight.
