National Debt Clock Comes to Ontario & Quebec

OTTAWA: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation’s (CTF) National Debt Clock Tour will come to Central Canada this week with stops in London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Whitby, Cobourg, Bellville, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. The coast-to-coast tour left Victoria B.C. on February 22, 2011 bringing with it a simple message: “cut spending, balance the budget and stop this clock.”

CTF National Research Director, Derek Fildebrandt and National Communications Manager, Scott Hennig will hold news conferences and photo opportunities with the National Debt Clock. The tour’s March 17the stop near Parliament Hill in Ottawa will mark the day in which new borrowing by the Harper government will wipe out all the federal debt repayment between 1997 and 2008. March 15 -- London, Kitchener-Waterloo March 16 -- Whitby, Cobourg, Bellville, Kingston March 17 -- Ottawa March 18 -- Montreal March 19 -- Quebec City Due to uncertainty of travel times, media should contact the undersigned who are traveling with the clock for exact arrival times and locations in listed communities. Local media may request additional stops in communities on route. The clock shows in real time the growth of the federal government's debt. Out of its trailer it is 12 feet long, 5.5 feet high and weighs over 300lbs. However, the clock can be viewed inside its trailer, thanks to custom built windows along the side of the trailer.
