National Socialism IV - The cost of the Hippocratic Oath

The order for the Final Solution was given sometime between October of 1941, when the German troops in front of Moscow first began to run out of their summer steam, and January 20,1942, when the infamous Wansee Conference was held in the mansion by the same name outside Berlin, where Himmler's second in command, Reinhard Heydrich, laid down the law to the Reich's leading actualizing luminaries, there was an earlier murder program called T-4.

Heydrich, the chief of the Reich Main Security Service advised the collected paladins that, "Instead of emigration, there is now a further possible solution to which the Führer has already signified his consent - namely deportation to the east," Heydrich stated, referring to mass deportations to the ghettos located in occupied Poland and to the soon to be opened death camps at Belzec, Sobibor, Chelmno, and Treblinka.   But these camps, which would make use of carbon monoxide and Zylon-B would be staffed in part by SS doctors, who were first trained during the operation of the T-4 Program (and its associated 14f13 Program aimed at Jews and Gypsies) named for the address in Berlin of the headquarters directing this particular experiment in murder, Tiergarten 4.    T-4 was directed by Philip Bouhler, who operated directly out of the Fuehrer's Chancellery office, and Dr. Kaarl Brandt, and operated from 1939 to 1941, when resistance from the church resulted in its near shut-down.  Further, this program was designed to eliminate those the Nazis deemed, "Life unworthy of life," and included those, both children and adults, with severe mental retardation, dementia, Parkinson's disease, alcoholism, advanced tuberculosis, and other similarly incurable diseases.  And those to be done to death were signed off by the doctors on staff, the lethal injections were administered by the doctors, and the reasons for death, like heart attacks, flu, and other fictional reasons, were also signed off by the same willing doctors working for the Nazi state, all of whom disregarded the sacred tenets of the Hippocratic Oath.   "Of the number of people killed in the T4 and the 14f13 projects, the following statistics are usually given: adult mental patients from institutions, 80,000 to 100,000; children in institutions, 5,000; special action against Jews in institutions, 1,000; concentration camp inmates transported to killing centers (14f13), 20,000 (Klee estimated that at the end of 1941, some 93,521 `beds' had been emptied for other uses [70,000 patients gassed, plus over 20,000 dead through starvation and medication] - in other words approximately one-third of the places for the mentally ill.) But these figures may well be too low; twice these numbers of people may have perished. The fact is that we do not know and shall probably never know. Elements of deception, imposed chaos, and the destruction of many records make anything like an accurate estimate impossible.   The same is true concerning the total number of people murdered at specific killing centers. Hartheim victims of both ordinary `euthanasia' and 14f13 are variously estimated from 20,000 (by Dr. Georg Renno, Lonauer's successor as director), to 400,000 (by Franz Ziereis, the former commandant of Mauthausen, on his deathbed); 30,000 is believed to be the best estimate. While these figures may seem unimpressive when placed next to the millions killed in the Final Solution, they represent the murder of shockingly large numbers of people—all in places characterized as hospitals." (The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide. London: Papermac, 1986 (Reprinted 1990) p. 142)."   Interestingly enough, the later extermination camps listed above, and Auschwitz, featured the same type of fictional shower system operated at the T-4 killing centers like Hartheim, Grafeneck, and Hadamar.  There those selected were directed into the bath house, asked to hang their clothes on the handy hooks, directed to pick up their soap and towels, coaxed into the shower rooms replete with shower heads, drains and tile floors and walls.  The door was then hermetically sealed and carbon monoxide gas was pumped into the showers, with this entire process overseen by the SS doctors.   Today, we have learned, thanks to Newsmax (July 20, 2009), that the Obama administration, in what continues to be their ongoing copy of earlier German national socialism, that the brother of Obama's White House chief of staff, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, serves as the director of the Clinical Bioethics Department at the U.S. National Institutes of Health and is a key architect of Obama's healthcare reform plan.   As such, Dr. Emanuel believes that the Hippocratic Oath is a key factor in driving the "overuse" of the US health care system ("The attack on Doctor's Hippocratic Oath," Betsy McCaughey, Investor's Business Daily, 4/29/2009); that, further, the allocation of health by age is not a form of descrimination (The Lancet, Volume 373, Issue 9661, Pgs. 423-431, 31 January 2009, "Principles for allocation of scarce medical interventions, Govind Persad, BS; Alan Wertheimer, PhD; Ezekiel J Emanuel, MD"); and that there is no guarantee of health care to patients with dementia (Express Riders Blog, Foster Friess - http://www.fosterfriess.com/).   In Obama's American version of national socialist medicine, we have the leader's chief of staff, who is ensconced directly in the White House, our version of the old Chancellery office, whose brother's a medical doctor and the architect of the current health care plan and whose ideas, though morally questionable, and listed above, may actually become the law of the land.    After all, Doctor Ezekiel Emanuel apparently believes that the Hippocratic Oath, the very foundation of Western medicine and the one binding oath the Nazi doctors abrogated across the board, is a problem because it causes needless expense, and Obamacare is all about curbing unwarranted costs and somebody's got to pay, one way or another.  Witholding medicine and medical treatment because of age is just fine, even though that this action alone will hasten death and will cause and increase suffering, and there's no harm and no foul there because its a "liberal" plan.  And finally that the good Dr. Emanuel, as one of the early architects and pillars of Obamacare, openly advocates for the limitation of doctors and palliatives for those suffering with dementia.  The proof is in the his words and his articles.   We seem to forget that the Nazi T-4 program was started for the so called "best" of intentions.  You know, the "euthanasia" of those in vegetative states, those "unworthy of life," and folks with incurable diseases because of their long term cost to the Gemeinschaft - the community, and to the Volk - the people.  Are we not doing the same thing when we refuse to treat the old, those with dementia, because of the cost to our own community, our own Gemeinschaft und Volk?   If we do, what kind of nation have we become when the doctors turn their backs on us by force of law?  What, then, is the price of a life?  And how many of us might perish as a result of Obamacare over time?  Will the statistics for this new natural "wastage" be available under the Freedom of Information Act?    Will we be same America if Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel's ideas are adopted?
