Media Bias, The real problem for Democrats is that they have no “new” schtick to which they can pivot.

NBC sorry to report their new poll – Trump approval up, Dem generic lead down, but….

NBC sorry to report their new poll--Trump approval up, Dem generic lead down Sometimes I wonder what it’s like in a an old-media newsroom these days. You did everything you could to get Hillary elected – and failed. In defiance of your best efforts, a man you openly despise is in the White House and he spends a good chunk of each day trashing your no-longer-existent credibility. Meanwhile, less and less people are buying your product, your co-workers are being fired, and there’s a good chance you’re trapped in the print media death spiral.
It’s got to be …bleak. So, you’re looking for a bright spot. At some point, you think, all the negative reporting has to take a toll. That’s why you love polls. They affirm your belief that you’re a very important person whose job matters. You pick a narrative, tell the stupid flyover country knuckle-draggers what to think, and then you watch the numbers go down accordingly. Then, your new NBC/WSJ poll comes in.
After an eventful and tumultuous month in American politics, majorities of American voters disapprove of President Donald Trump’s handling of Russia and immigration at the border, while half approve of his job on the economy, according to a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Trump’s overall job-approval rating in the poll stands at 45 percent among registered voters — up 1 point from June — while 52 percent of voters disapprove of his job. …Indeed, the new NBC/WSJ poll finds the president’s approval rating among Republican voters at 88 percent — the highest of his presidency — and 29 percent of all voters strongly approve of his job, which is another high for Trump in the poll.
Translation: “We’ve been hammering him about Helsinki, Russia, and immigration every day for a month and HIS NUMBERS WENT UP!?!? Weren’t those smelly WalMart shoppers listening? Why aren’t they thinking what we told them to think!?!?!”

The sad fact is that yes, everyone heard the mainstream take on the Russia summit. They heard the left-wing immigration line, and they heard that ‘Cheeto Jesus is Putin’s puppet.’ They heard it all, and they just don’t care what the press says anymore. The once-powerful media no longer matters. Oh, and by the way, Democrats are also watching their midterm generic ballot advantage evaporate…
“The NBC/WSJ poll shows 49 percent of voters preferring a Democratic-controlled Congress as the outcome for November’s midterm elections, versus 43 percent who want Republicans to stay in charge. That 6-point lead in congressional preference for Democrats is down from last month’s 10-point margin, 50 percent to 40 percent, though the difference is well within the survey’s margin of error.”
If there’s one bright spot for the slavishly left-wing “serious newsmen,” it’s that the left does seem to have enthusiasm on their side. That’s not something that anyone should take lightly, either. Hatred of the current administration could give the Dems the boost they need to overcome sagging numbers.
“…Democrats continue to enjoy an enthusiasm advantage heading into the midterms: 65 percent of Democratic voters have a high level of interest in the upcoming elections — registering either a “9” or “10” on a 10-point scale — compared with 49 percent of GOP voters.”
That number may wane as local races become more about local issues and less about Trump but, right now, it’s a substantial disparity. The real problem for Democrats is that they have no “new” schtick to which they can pivot. Barring a major smoking gun, the Russia probe is a non-starter. Stormy didn’t score any points, and Dems are losing their grip on black and Hispanic voters even as they scream racism. The current attacks simply aren’t hitting the mark, and everything else they might trot out – namely their actual policies – have been largely rejected. …But I guess they’ll always have socialism.
