A recent issue of the trade periodical Canadian Garden Centre & Nursery featured a number of new products likely to be found in your local friendly garden centre. Some that caught the eye include: Hug-It Planters for New Locations “Hug-It” and “Flex-It” planters from Garden-Aire, feature a unique design that allows gardening enthusiasts to easily grow flowers, herbs or vegetables at a convenient height above the ground on trees, poles, posts, porch columns, etc. without any tools or hardware. These planters feature three-gallon capacity, knockouts for easy side planting and integrated water management that saves some water then routes excess away from the structure.

New Pruners from Fiskars

Fiskars introduces the 9112 Carabiner Loop Handle Pruner, a new hand pruner that features a non-stick blade coating that cuts with less effort and a fully hardened steel blade. The carabiner makes the pruner easier to transport and the loop handle provides comfort, control and safety. Suitable for both right- or left-handed use, the pruner has a cutting capacity of 5/8 inches and features a lifetime warranty.

Botanical Insecticide from Doktor Doom

Botanics Indoor Plant Spray for Doktor Doom kills and repels insects inflicting houseplants upon contact. This naturally-derived insecticide comes from the chrysanthemum flower with the can designed to spray in all directions, even upside down, so necessary to kill aphids, spotted mites, exposed thrips, leafhoppers, and other pests.

Self-Watering Planter

As the room lighting changes, so does the appearance of the new Diamante planter from Lechuza. The self-watering planter rises from the floor in a tall, tapered cylinder covered with many flat sides. Each of these surfaces is modeled with a very slight pattern that captures and reflects light at varying anglers depending on the illumination and the direction from which it is viewed. The result is an elegant planter that never looks boring. What it does for the plant in it is, of course, a good question . . .

Rustic Furniture for the Garden

Florists Supply is introducing a new line of rustic looking furniture that is perfect for patio and garden use. For example, a wine & dine cooler features a table that opens up and functions as a cooler, and has an attached bottle opener and a cutting board. The line also includes a bench along with planters that measure 31 inches high and 23.5 inches wide.

There is also a new Electric Lawn Mower offered through Home Hardware dealers

The ZEROe is the first of its kind a full size electric garden tractor with 2 motors for drive and 2 direct drives to the 42-inch mower deck. Battery power enough to mow at least two acres, zero turn steering, electric brakes and comes with a 110-volt charger. Price? On sale last month for $3,999.99 – which is less than the touted robot mowers that require a wire be buried around the perimeter of the lawn.
