New Orleans inglorious (and inevitable) milestone as America's murder capital once again, makes several systemic points which can no longer be ignored:
• New Orleans police reform has been an epic failure, so much so that officers no longer feel obligated to answer calls not deemed "important enough" nor even classify rape as sexual assault, among many other outright derelictions of duty.
• New Orleans charter school carpet bagging has not changed behavioral norms given the number of violent juvenile career criminals enrolled in booming businesses disguised as public schools.
• New Orleans parents either enable violent offspring or are outmatched by them. In either scenario adults have knowledge of multiple serious felonies and are doing nothing or worse, profiting from the carnage.
• New Orleans youth have wholeheartedly embraced intimidation and felony violence as perverse cultural identity to an even greater extent than Generation Xers whose Crack Cocaine wars of the 1980s and 1990s is the stuff of urban legend.
This is the domestic equivalent of African "small boy units" used to wage war overseas- shocking in a stable society.
• Lastly, Katrina inflicted population reduction dispersed older violent career criminals and allegedly decreased crime during the (Mayor Mitch) Landrieu years. This reduction was erroneously credited to local police and education reform efforts.
As more locals returned we now see Millennials and Gen Zers quickly en route to matching high triple digit homicide numbers of the Crack Cocaine war era.
It's not every local young person nor parent imposing this Urban Apocalypse on our community.
But it is a disturbing high enough percentage to warrant profound concern going forward as local safety further unravels before our very eyes.
And FYI, not charging violent juveniles as adults and not arresting adult criminals means every resulting crime victim is a human sacrifice to some fanciful ideology or official's vanity.
