No mystery why Republican ranks grow, Democrat turnout low

Theories abound, thus far, regarding the increased numbers of voters in the republican primaries as compared to the deflating democrat totals. They include everything from democrats not bothering to cast a ballot because Hillary Clinton is the presumptive heir to Obama’s throne, to discontent with their own candidates. Those of us who have a tendency to sit in the balcony (far outside the Beltway) and observe the antics, bustling and rhetoric of all the candidates, may have arrived at a different viewpoint than the average pundit. Some have touched on it but dismissed the concept with a wave of their better-educated, sometimes supercilious hand.

All the calls, passing conversations and, yes, ministerial visits, make it fairly apparent that disillusionment with the democrat offerings have prompted tens of thousands, and perhaps more, members of that party (from Massachusetts to Louisiana) to re-register as republicans. In California there are growing numbers of democrats opting to choose non-affiliation with a party, allowing them to vote in whatever party primary they wish. Pretty convenient for crossover voting… but not for the reason you might think. It is not that democrats have found the republican party to be calling them to so-called conservatism. No. It is the siren call of a liberal, who espouses so many progressive ideals, running as a republican. An opportunity to support a frontrunner who talks democrat values, and isn’t in line to be fitted for prison rags, is too good to pass up. Even liberals think they walk a median line and Donald Trump is straddling that fence, hung up on it, better than anyone else in the race. Between lauding Planned Parenthood for providing services that they actually don’t; spouting that he “like(s) the mandate” while releasing a healthcare plan that does away with it; vows to build a fence and deport illegals, while allowing them back into the USA if they go through the “proper channels,” which is against the standing law; saying that the Iran Deal is a “disaster” then guaranteeing to renegotiate it; and promising to make deals with the democrats who don’t believe in compromise, which previous “dealmaking” is what decimated the economy, Trump isn’t offering a distinction from the other party.

These issues and more beckon democrats to leave their party and register as republicans in order to vote in support of one of their own masquerading as a republican. The swindle becomes apparent when republicans, independents, libertarians or conservatives buy into the stridently delivered statements that are contradictory from week to week, amounting to a vacillating policy. Trump’s online platforms often conflict with what he says behind a microphone, exactly what democrats are used to – someone who tailors their words to the particular audience, i.e. a quick-change artist. People are free to choose whom they support and with which party they prefer to register, but republicans should be plainly aware that they have been infiltrated by a progressive authoritarian impersonating a magnanimous businessman, and democrats who recognize the impostor.
