'No evidence of criminal wrongdoing'

NPR source on Flynn/Russia: 'Absolutely nothing' in transcripts to suggest the 'trail leads any higher'

Ever since the stories about Michael Flynn's conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak heated up, the left has been in a tizzy. Just as they have a hundred times before, they're thinking "this time we've got him." As per usual, they probably don't. However, they want to make it appear as though they do, and they want to maintain that perception as long as possible. It's all part of knee-capping the new administration and de-legitimizing the President. So, the press has been burying the lead like a pirate with a chest full of gold.
This was evident in the "bombshell" New York Times report, where you had to dig down to the third paragraph to find the real story:
The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election. The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.
"No evidence" has never stopped progressives, so they're more than happy to repeat innuendo as fact. They've created a Potemkin village and they'll do whatever they can to prop it up as long as possible. However, the more details come to light, the more difficult it will be to maintain the facade. According to a source contacted by NPR's Mary Louise Kelly, there is currently "no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing" on Michael Flynn's part and, more importantly, nothing in the transcripts of Flynn's conversations indicate he was directed by Trump or that "the trail leads higher."

Depending on the content of the conversations, Flynn could have violated a law called the Logan Act, which bars a private individual from conducting foreign policy without the permission of the U.S. government. For instance, if Flynn told the ambassador the Trump administration would drop the sanctions, that would have been illegal. The intelligence official who has personally seen the transcripts told Mary Louise they contained "no evidence" of criminal wrongdoing, although the official said it can't be definitively ruled out. The official also said there was "absolutely nothing" in the transcripts that suggests Flynn was acting under instructions "or that the trail leads higher." "I don't think [Flynn] knew he was doing anything wrong," the official said. "Flynn talked about sanctions, but no specific promises were made. Flynn was speaking more in general 'maybe we'll take a look at this going forward' terms."
We're sure this won't matter to Democrats, who will continue to push conspiracy theories. After all, this has nothing to do with fact. It's 100% about claiming scalps. They got Flynn and they smell blood in the water. In the end, they'll most likely be disappointed, but they'll drag the country through hell and back if it means inflicting an ounce of pain upon the Trump administration. They were defied in the last election and their party was reduced to a regional, coastal, affair. Now, their rage-fueled histrionics have created not just an appetite for, but also a political need for, a pound of flesh.
