The Great Compromiser

Obama at Bethesda Fountain

Many people think that Obama is a nice guy, that he is sweet. Even when he lost the first debate to Romney, he looked like a meek little lamb in the corner of large state arguments he hadn’t prepared for. Although Romney was anything but a Bidenesque bully, the average sucker couldn’t help but feel sorry for Obama.

Obama’s face reminded me of a hippy chanting “peace” at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park during the sixties. Timothy Leery used to sit there stoned on acid. Obama looked sad like Donovan singing “Hurdy Gurdy Man.” He was lost in his own naïve dreams of tranquility, “'Twas then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man/ Came singing songs of love.” But we’re not talking about songs of love when we are dealing with our enemies. Obama can’t dance through the streets of Benghazi like Donovan in a white robe pretending that peace is at hand. Obama shouldn’t blame Islamic hatred and Al-Qaeda violence on a You tube video. He should speak the truth—conversation is not a truce and Obama has not protected us but led us into a larger, spreading war. His libertine social values are the scorn of Moslem fundamentalists. Why else do they burn the great compromiser’s picture in the streets of Arab countries? David Lawrence New York, NY
