Obama attacks (and mocks) Fox News poverty coverage . . .

Yesterday, President Obama attacked Fox News for the way it covers poverty, even going so far as to say "we're going to have to change the way the media reports on these issues." Oh are we? We all know Obama thinks the job of the media is to lick his boots, and we also know he would use the power of the state to silence media critics if he could. (They tried it with James Rosen, remember?)

So his specific complaint here is that he thinks Fox talks about poor people in a condescending way. I doubt he actually watches Fox News very often, but here is how he thinks it goes:
The effort to suggest that the poor are sponges, leeches, don’t want to work, are lazy, undeserving, got traction. I have to say that if you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant menu. They will have folks who make me mad. I don't even know where they find them. "I don't want to work, I just want a free Obamaphone or whatever."
News flash for the president: There are people who aren't interested in working, and many of them got that way because of liberal anti-poverty programs that only bred dependency and kept people in poverty! But if the president wants to deal in poverty facts, I've got some facts for him: When he took office in 2009, there were 9.9 million blacks living below the poverty level. As of 2013, there were 11 million. How is Obama's big-government approach working out for poor blacks? Not so well! The overall percentage of Americans living in poverty is 14.5 percent, but if you want to break that down along racial lines, it's 12.3 percent of whites and 27.1 percent of blacks. A lot of black people voted for Obama because they thought he would know how to make things better in a way that would benefit them. He has failed to do that. We're deeper in debt, our economy is now growing and we've got more black people in poverty than ever. Obama has failed. He needs to stop attacking the messenger and get some better policies. Perhaps the only thing worse than Obama's comments were the fact that his audience thought it was hilarious. Folks, Obama and his supporters may think poverty is a laughing matter, but those of us who understand these numbers know it is not. Can we get a serious president please?
