Olbermann: Americans are a greater threat to Muslims than Muslims are to Americans

I’m not masochistic. However, there is something mildly alluring about tuning in to a liar whose harangues are so out-of-touch that to hear them is to run, figuratively, across nails. By watching Keith Olbermann, my goal wasn’t to feel superior (which I did) or to view a hissy-fit (which I did), it was to experience happiness. That a bombastic and ill-informed fool is allowed to make a living is awesome - What other country? Where else but America? - and knowing that it’s real, and that Olbermann is employed, is an absolute marvel and testament to human kindness.

That said, there’s something “odd” about Keith, as if he knows he’s lying, knows that you know, yet it doesn’t matter, because he can’t be taken seriously. For example, in this program his commentary addressed the “community center” (not a mosque) at Ground Zero, and in particular the dangerous bigots who oppose it. According to Keith, we have it backwards—it’s Muslims, not infidels, who live under threat. In Keith’s “wink-wink” world, non-Muslim Americans pose a greater danger to Islamists than Islamists pose to non-Muslim Americans. This is not a punch-line:
“May 10th. Jacksonville, Florida. A pipe-bomb at the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida. It went off during evening prayers, and it was powerful enough to send shrapnel flying 100 yards. Fortunately, the bomber didn’t know where to place it, so the 60 Muslim worshippers were uninjured. If he’d put it inside, they’d have been dead.”
Dead! Keith is certain that the bomber desired the blood of 60 Muslims, that the device had this capability— But wait. According to the Jacksonville News, “a small explosion” did occur, but the damage was “minimal.” Hmmm…. Does a “small” bomb murder sixty? According to an eye-witness, the noise was at first thought to be a roof-top air-conditioner, but when he went to check on it, he saw flames and put it out, not by calling the Fire Department but extinguishing it on his own. Estimated damage? Five-hundred dollars. Now, I can’t speak for Keith, but something’s not right. If the “explosion,” as he claims, was large enough to kill sixty men (women aren’t allowed), and the damage was $500, that’s $8.33 per/death, a rather thrifty bomb. Al-Qaida bombs don’t get that return, and they topple buildings. Still, Olbermann (wink) pushed the theme: “Maybe those exploiting 45 Park Place (the mosque) would still shake their fists and decry terrorism by extremists who happen to be Muslim, and never face the shameful truth about our country…. As the Jacksonville mosque-bombing shows (don’t laugh), since September 11th, Muslims have been at far greater risk of being victims of terrorism in the United States than have non-Muslims.” JUMP THE SHARK! Forget 13 dead at Fort Hood; forget the Underwear Bomber (Detroit, last I checked, was in the United States); forget Times Square, NON-MUSLIMS are the menace! White, Christian, conservative bigots are marauding America committing atrocities. Not true, you say? Americans don’t threaten Muslims, you say? Remember the source. Keith no more believes his commentary than Mao believed in Christ. It’s shtick, pure and simple. It’s also pathetic. For consistency, Keith should dress as a troll and, to match his bluster, wear a tinfoil hat.
