One-trick pony: noun
one that is skilled in only one area

Now that “silly season” (aka: election season) is well underway, many of us need to assess exactly who we might vote for. For the last 75 years the favorite strategy for many politicians, particularly liberal politicians, has been to get voters to focus on one issue and vote based on that one issue.
More often than not, they prefer some highly charged emotional issue such as abortion (murder of the unborn), human caused climate change (an unscientific illusion with no scientific basis), and gun control (ignoring the reality that people kill people, and sometimes they use a gun).
The purpose of this strategy is to divert attention away from all the things the politician did or did not do that actually hurt the citizens of America as a whole. As an example, the senior Senator from Montana uses veteran’s affairs as his major accomplishment for his time in office, and truly he has done some good for veterans nationwide. As a veteran, I appreciate what he has done in this area. However, 95% or more of his Senate votes in the last three and a half years have been in total lockstep with the destructive policies of Joe Biden, who has turned America into the mess it is in 2024.
If a person votes for Senator Jon Tester, that vote is a vote for high gas prices, high food prices, high energy prices, taxpayers paying off college student loans, the foreign invasion of millions of people including enemies of America, support of the drug cartels, support of human trafficking, and I could go on and on.
Does the one good thing done by the Senator offset all the bad stuff he endorses? I just don’t think so. For me, he is a “one-trick pony.”
Just because a politician supports your hot button issue doesn’t mean he deserves your vote. Does that politician support things that help or hurt your pocketbook? Does that politician support your value system across the board? Is the politician you are considering to vote for a “one-trick pony” or a person who is doing good on a wide variety of issues that impact you and your fellow citizens?
For 75 years, too many people have had tunnel vision and allowed their politicians to trick them into ignoring all the bad things they have been doing in favor of a voter’s one hot button issue. The result, America has the best government money can buy. Unfortunately, the alternate Golden Rule also applies: Those with the gold rule.
