Oops Doesn’t Disqualify Perry

The whole world thinks that Rick Perry ruined his chances of becoming president when he forgot the third federal agency he would do away with and he said “Oops.”

But “oops” doesn’t disqualify him. I think this makes Perry more human. Under the pressure of a monumental debate it is possible to lose your train of thought. In fact if you don’t lose your train of thought you are probably over-rehearsed or have ice water in your veins. Maybe Perry simply had an intervening idea or a collision with some other train of thought and his mind fragmented a bit. If you want to discount Perry do it because of his desire to give immigrants reduced tuition, his inoculation of little girls against HPV, his possible drunkenness during a speech and a racist sign at his hunting camp or whatever but don’t discount him on minor verbal mishaps during a manufactured debate. And if you are concerned about Presidential figures forgetting their speeches take a second look at Obama who lives in the glow of the teleprompter while language drag racers like Chris Mathews gets chills up his leg and decides that Obama is the smartest president ever.
