Oregon spends $200 million for a broken exchange site that still boasts zero sign ups
Government in action
Wherever you currently live, know this. Whether your state has built its own exchange or not, it could be worse. You could be living in Oregon.
Over the course of three years, the state has squandered a staggering $200 million on its online exchange at CoverOregon.com. Approximately $160 million of that was piddled away prior to the October 1st ObamaCare launch. Another $40 million has been spent since. All of it was supplied by U.S. taxpayers via the federal government.
Prior to launch, the people behind the site promised that it would be the model which the entire nation would want to emulate. Since then, well, let's just say they've gotten awfully quiet.
CoverOregon.com has yet to successfully process a single customer, and they have no idea when the site will work well enough to do so.
The state still has about $100 million of its initially allocated $305 million federal dollars and they have a decision to make. Do they press ahead, or do they dump the entire project, return the remaining cash, and try something - anything - else?
Would a hundred million dollars build a functioning time machine? Maybe they could go back to 2009 and warn everyone...
