Our Bill of Rights is Past Due!

There was a time in America when the media reported the news. It was a time when the term investigative journalism was not an oxymoron. That was before public opinion polls became the driving force of the mass media. News organizations of course would commission pollsters with questions about newsy issues-- and independent pollsters would often make their own information gathering available for a price. Voila-- poll driven news.

And so this weekend when the Rasmussen polls ran results unfavorable to democrats, the Party of Jackasses did what it has always done best-- -kill the messenger. They attacked Rasmussen’s polling methods because the results showed high disapproval ratings for President Obama. The same pollster was statistically on the mark in 2008 during the presidential campaign, consistently hitting the bull’s-eye of public opinion right through to the historic election of Barack Obama. The problem with polls is that, more often than not, the liberal media will discard any results that don’t agree with their agenda but will headline those that go along with their advocacy journalism. Thus, the Rasmussen poll showing nearly 6 out of 10 Americans favored ‘waterboarding’ the Christmas day terrorist in order to get more information about other possible attacks on America was given very little, if any, press coverage. As we enter a pivotal election year, one of the most interesting and truly defining polls (before America goes to the polls) would be a series of questions based on the Bill of Rights. 10 Questions, reflecting the first 10 Amendments of the United States Constitution, just to see how many Americans agree with those cherished rights penned by the founders of our great nation. I imagine that the majority who took the time to reflect on these rights, perhaps for the first time, would by and large be in agreement that these rights should be upheld. But for many Americans, ‘thinking’ has been replaced with amusement. The masses are swayed by popular campaign slogans that sound progressive but are devoid of substance. Too many in America don’t want a leader who can make hard decisions. They have come to the point where security means giving up individual rights. What the Democrats are doing is ‘chasing the wind’.  Where they have failed to be proactive they simply react-- and often too slowly. Where they have tried to lead, the vast majority don’t want to follow. But this is the politics that says the people be damned. This is leadership that ignores basic constitutional rights. These pompous public servants serve only the god of their own misguided theology. True patriots will not idly sit by and allow the wholesale destruction of America. They will not acquiesce to politicians who have been rewriting the Constitution to usurp their God given rights. There are days of reckoning ahead. This administration has done more damage to this country than 9/11. But it has also done more unwittingly to rekindle the fires of patriotism. Read your Bill of Rights and reflect on their importance to the survival of America. And if you find it necessary, protect your First Amendment rights with the Second Amendment!
