MSNBC has a new show! It's hosted by former Pennsylvania Representative Patrick Murphy (D-of course). It's called "Taking the Hill" and this weekend it featured an appearance by everyone's favorite former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
Murphy asked Pelosi about Obama's failing battle against ISIS, but Pelosi wasn't interested in admitting that things aren't going so well. Instead, she decided to highlight one of the areas where we are, apparently, making some truly "impressive advances" against our barbaric opponents.FMR. REP. PATRICK MURPHY, MSNBC HOST: This past week, though, when it comes to ISIS, the mixed result — unfortunately, Ramadi was taken over by ISIS. The same time, the army’s delta force captured the money man for ISIS in Syria. so obviously mixed results. So you think the strategy’s working? What else needs to be done? REP. NANCY PELOSI: It’s an enormous challenge. And we have to fight it on every front, including the front of social media. That’s a place where they have really made more advances than you would have suspected. And that is where we have to fight them, as well. This apprehension in Syria — well, killing of one and taking of his wife, as well as important intelligence information was a success. Again, we have to fight them on all fronts. Communication-wise as well as militarily. Now, Pelosi's right - at least in one regard. As stupid as it sounds, we do have to fight ISIS on the social media front. Virtually all of their propaganda and recruitment efforts, particularly in the west, are run through outlets like Twitter and Facebook. Pelosi offers no specifics, but if we're impeding those efforts, that's great. However, it's truly disturbing that this seems to be the only area that Pelosi can point to as a success. At a time when cities are falling to ISIS and their campaign of raping, pillaging, slaughtering, and beheading continues largely unabated, who cares that we've achieved "snark superiority" on Twitter? How badly are things going if this is what Pelosi uses this as evidence of our alleged "gains?"
