Teenbeat Las Vegas

Please watch KLAS TV News Friday at 5PM

Teenbeat Las Vegas
All this week, KLAS-TV Channel 8 is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. On Friday, July 19, the station will feature film clips from the 1960's production of "Teenbeat Las Vegas" hosted by then 19 year-olds Keith Austin and Steve Miller.

The show aired live each Saturday evening from 5 - 6 PM from 1964 until 1968, and featured live performances by the day's top rock artists who performed in front of a studio audience, a first for Las Vegas. Directed by Dennis Hunt, Teenbeat was the station's biggest in-studio production and included some amazing flubs and bloopers that could not be edited out of live TV (the show was canceled ten times). Sponsored by Pepsi Cola, Teenbeat was the highest rated program during its time slot going head with Lawrence Welk on Channel 13, and NFL football on Channel 2 (now 3) when LV had only three TV stations. Please watch George Knapp's interview with Steve to see why he's a legend in his own mind. If you miss the broadcast, we will try to post the segment on Steve's YouTube channel sometime in the next week or two.
