Police request assistance with online cottage rental fraud investigation



The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an ongoing fraud investigation.

It is reported that:
  • between June 2012 and August 2012, several people responded to advertisements for a cottage rental on Three Mile Lake in Emsdale, Ontario, which have been posted online on Kijiji.ca and Craigslist.ca
  • -
  • in the advertisements, the suspect(s) describes the cottage rental as a 1600-square-foot beautiful cottage, on spring-fed, Three Mile Lake (Mustoka/Huntsville area) with the email address of seasonrentals@yahoo.com
  • -
  • the suspect(s) uses the names of David and Melissa White in the advertisements
  • -
  • the suspect(s) requested payment to be made through an e-mail money transfer
  • -
  • once the suspect(s) receives the payment, the suspect(s) stops all communication with the victims
Police believed there may be more victims.
