As a generation, we may have whiffed at the plate on three straight fastballs. Maybe the kids on deck can fix things. One hopes.

Power and Money

power-and-moneyI feel a little silly starting with a headline that is so obvious. Yes, Virginia, current politics in America is all about power and money. No matter where one goes inside the DC beltway, one encounters a near universal census of people on the take. The actions of individuals throughout the current fabric of elected politics at the national level are motivated by the pursuit of power and money. By any other name it would be called corruption. Our Founders must be spinning in their graves.

Our Founders knew that men (and women) were evil, fallen and sinners. The Good Book said so, and they believed it. They believed it because they saw these behaviors in those around them. They saw the heartless and thoughtless oppression of people who simply wanted to be left alone. They suffered interminable injustices at the hands of men far removed in geography and philosophy attempting to control every aspect of their lives. As the great political philosophers of the day advised, these brave souls stepped forward to say that enough was enough. A courageous band of learned men faced into the wind and defied the mother country. They took up arms and demanded something better. They formed a covenant with each other to stand and, if necessary, die for their cause. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty!!!
Liberty encompasses individual free will and the God-given right to speak, write, assemble, pray and worship anyway one wants. No one may interfere with these rights. As these rights are natural (God Given), one should expect that any representative government selected by the people would protect those rights. After all, that is the singular purpose of government—protect the people. Our Founders, once self-government was secured, cautioned their fellow citizens about “factions.” Today, we would call those factions special interests. Our Founders were wise enough to build a political, social and economic framework that had cross-beams called checks and balances. The Constitution, the supreme law of the land, was that architecture. As amended, that document should be as revered as the Holy Bible. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer of our fellow citizens have heard about the Constitution, let alone have read it. This body of ignoramuses includes most members of congress.

It is difficult to point the finger of blame at the democrats or progressives. The inattention and apathy of conservatives is as much to blame for our current state of affairs as is the other side. We have allowed two-plus generations of Americans to wither away in our public school systems. We have not demanded accountability from our elected officials. We have not rallied to demand national sovereignty. We have allowed critical race theory and gender identity to permeate our education systems. We have stood on the sidelines expecting someone else to pick the gauntlet. We have failed as citizens to demand what our Founders demanded. We, as a people, have not fought to protect Western Civilization. We, as a people, have not protected the unique American culture.
We all have skills and abilities that will help in pushing back against the progressive onslaught. We cannot expect someone else to fight in our place. Each of us must do our part. We must vote. We must campaign for good conservatives. We must give what we can to resource these campaigns. We must confront the progressive agenda. We must find others who are willing to pick up “sword and shield.” We must be relentless, ruthless and unwavering. We must fight. WE CANNOT KEEP QUIET. WE CANNOT FAIL. It may be too late for my generation to have a lasting positive effect on our nation. As a generation, we may have whiffed at the plate on three straight fastballs. Maybe the kids on deck can fix things. One hopes.
