-From Riding out the Recession As you guys have probably noticed, it’s been pretty warm so far this year. My buddy Ken, out in Texas, has been under a severe drought, as well as close to 50 days over 100 degrees. They’ve been having just an awful time of it. Well, with ole Ken on my mind this morning, I’d like to share with him a couple of cool ideas for “beatin the heat!”

Actually not just Ken, though. We have another buddy who lives in Virginia, and his name is Bobby. Bobby is a dern workaholic and just ain’t happy unless he’s out in the garden getting just plain, hot and dirty! You might want to give yourself a treat next break you get Bobby, and enjoy one of these too. Here’s to you guys! God Bless you and yours! Purple Cows:
  1. 1 pint (2 cups) vanilla ice cream
  2. 1-1/2 cups milk
  3. 1 (6 oz.) can frozen grape juice concentrate
Soften ice cream by setting it out of freezer while getting the other ingredients together. Use a can opener to open the can of concentrate, and use a rubber scraper to help empty the concentrate into a blender. Add milk to blender, and spoon softened ice cream into blender as well. Cover and turn blender on WHIP until smooth. Serve immediately. Granny’s Energy Candy:
  1. 1 cup honey
  2. 2 cups raisins
  3. 1 cup peanut butter
  4. 1 cup chopped nuts
  5. 2 cups non-fat dry milk
  6. 2 cups uncooked oatmeal
Mix in honey and peanut butter in a bowl. Gradually add dry milk, mixing well. Mix in raisins, nuts, and oatmeal. Shape into a log; wrap. Chill until firm. To serve, cut into one inch slices. Fruit Punch:
  1. 6 oranges
  2. 6 lemons
  3. 2 quarts of tea
  4. 2 cups sugar
  5. 1 large bottle Maraschino cherries
  6. 1 quart pineapple juice
  7. 4 quarts ginger ale
Squeeze oranges and lemons. Cover skins with boiling water and let stand until cool. Strain. Use this water with sugar to make syrup; add tea, pineapple juice and cherries. Add ginger ale just before serving. Makes about 70 cups.

Dub and Deb——

‘Ridin Out The Recession With Dub and Deb in “Miz Judi’s Kitchen’!

Note to Readers: There are a few things that Dub doesn’t know but one thing he does know is that the word ‘Riding’ (as in Riding Out the Recession) is spelled with a ‘g’ at the end.  But Dub not only walks the walk, but speaks like he is: down home, true blue, and plain speakin’ country folk.

Dub and Deb are both native Floridians, live in Central Florida, and run a small business as well. They have five children, and seven grandchildren.

Both love to cook, love to laugh, grow a garden, and generally try to “aggravate” most anyone around them basically…all in good fun, of course!
