Women, independents, and young people turn their backs on the President

Quinnipiac & MSNBC: Obama polling at new lows - Republicans now favored for 2014

The news just keeps getting worse for the President, as well as Democrats in general. New Quinnipiac polling data shows Obama at an all-time low, with just 38% approving of the job he's doing. 57% disapprove.
We know what you're thinking. "How can 38% actually approve of this mess?" Your guess is as good as ours, but it's worth noting that the President's Quinnipiac numbers are now below George W. Bush's at the same point in his administration. ...and that 38% approval is actually the good news for Democrats. The bad news is that the President is underwater with women 44% to 49%, and young people 41% to 49%. Independents disapprove at a staggering 62% to 30%. His dismal job performance has also begun hurting his party as a whole. Voters now say they'd like Republicans in control of both the House and Senate by a substantial 47% - 42% margin.

What, pray tell, could be causing all of this? Obviously, it's Barack Obama's "signature legislation." At the risk of offending Melissa Perry Harris, we're going to take the President's advice pre-launch advice and call it ObamaCare. After all, he used to be so "proud" of that term; we'd hate to stop using it. This morning, the fine folks at MSNBC were forced to echo Quinnipiac's findings (albeit with slightly higher NBC numbers), and they admit that it's all thanks to his incredibly unpopular health care law.

November is a long way off and, yes, there's still every possibility that the GOP will do what it always does by shooting itself in the foot prior to the elections. However, considering that this is the first time in over a year that Quinnipiac has had Republicans leading on the generic ballot, these are definitely encouraging numbers. As the ObamaCare chaos continues to expand - which it will throughout next year - Republicans need to stay focused on the damage it's causing. Democrats demanded this law, rammed it down the people's throats, and are now reaping the rewards. No matter how much Dems squirm, or how much they try to distract, the GOP needs to make them own their albatross.
