Talk to a real Christian about the sovereignty of God and he will tell you that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God is unchanging. His laws are not up for discussion. His attributes are “rock solid”. His character doesn’t change with the seasons nor is God a respecter of persons. The way to Heaven is still the one road that must be travelled with Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior. He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. Real Christians must believe this!
But real Christians are hard to find. They are the wheat among the choking weeds. They are the few clergy who will not be silent when the law of the land becomes an anathema to God. They are the remnant that bases their votes on God’s immutable word. Real Christians do not run from debate when it concerns God’s Truth being attacked. They stand and fight as soldiers in the army of the LORD.
Real Christians are not self-righteous, but stand on the righteousness imputed to them by Jesus Christ. Real Christians actually believe in the Resurrection and in the hope they share in their salvation and ultimate glory with God.
Real Christians are not wimps. They don’t look the other way while injustice and sin scream from the headlines and say “Judge not, lest you be judged”! The fact is we will all be judged. But real Christianity knows TRUTH and uses it as a standard by which it can judge the workings of this world. Real Christians have the power of the Holy Spirit and are lifted into battle to fight the good fight. The fight isn’t against a political party or a president or even some godless dictator-- the fight is against the spiritual darkness that empowers, ensnares, and emboldens them.
Real Christians are tired of hearing the Bible being taken out of context! We are NOT to submit to rulers who are governing contrary to God’s laws. Our allegiance is to the sovereignty of God, not to man. Real Christians speak out when inalienable rights are being curtailed. Real Christians know the Jesus of the New Testament who was quick to point out hypocrisy, who had the righteous anger to overturn the tables of the moneychangers who were making a mockery of God’s house, and who preached repentance from sin. Real Christians aren’t fooled by a gospel that is centered on self-esteem and not Christ esteem. They understand that health and prosperity is only by God’s grace and blessing and not part of some prayer formula by which we can “name it and claim it”. Real Christians pray for God’s will to be done instead of God to submit to theirs. Real Christians seek God first above all things.
Jesus told His followers to “take up your cross and follow me”. In this world He said we would have tribulation. I don’t read where lots of material blessings are a guaranteed right. Our only guarantee is that if confess with our mouth that Jesus is LORD and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead-- we will be saved! Real Christians know salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit is the only certainty we have as we live out this life. It also is more than enough to overcome the world.
Real Christians are not wimps.
