REASON TV: It's Time To Abolish the TSA

Libertarians, like some conservative cousins, miss these all-important points;

Podcast for the flagship libertarian publication, 'Reason' magazine chimes in.

Predictably, they want private firms to do airportSecurity screening. September 11th, 2001 had a flying public 'protected' by minimum wage earning private screeners. To be fair, they didn't fail on that day. Highly paid intelligence officials failure made historic, tragic consequences. They weren't fired, by-the-way. Unlike private screeners, who would've been immediately terminated.

A return to a dismal minimum wage private screener model in this new world means my mantra of 'low pay, high turnover' returns. A return, it can't be stressed enough, where a stable workforce literally saves lives.

The private security industry is plagued by high turnover because of low wages it pays. Returning this shortfall to airport screening is dangerously short-sighted.

Today's threat landscape isn't the safe, scholarly suburbanite setting seen by libertarians. It's one inflamed by decriminalization and mass migration, two security policy breeches favored by them and the left.

Well paid protectors are the surest safeguard in this scenario. Private firms to date are against adequate compensation and career paths for security screeners. Libertarians, like some conservative cousins, miss these all-important points.
