Good morning, everyone! Welcome back to Ridin' Out the Recession. I hope all are well this morning and thanks so much for droppin’ in! Well, I’ve got to say I really haven’t had a good last couple days. We had a paving job we thought we’d complete in one day, well, it lasted three. Not really our fault, but the depth of the asphalt we were milling out exceeded our bid.

This really was of no consequence to us simply in the fact any overages are paid for by the community we’re doing the paving for. But it’s still time involved, and as my computer crashed yesterday I’ve been “ill-tailed,” as Deb likes to say! The problem is that, first, I had to go buy a new computer, that’s bad enough, especially in these times. Secondly our youngest son Mark (Red), is my computer wizard. This really isn’t that great of a compliment to Red though as I feel if you can literally spell the word computer…you’re a computer wizard! Actually, though, he is pretty sharp in this regard. That, or I’m literally that dumb, so even if this is in reality the case, I like to think Red is that sharp! Kinda’ makes me feel a little better! Anyway Red has been trying to run back and forth to the job to keep it running, then swinging back out here, to try to get my computer up, the whole time listening to my mouth run. So in reality Red ought to be the “ill-tailed” one! They’re only about 4-5 miles from our home-office, and he wishes I’m sure they were more like 100 miles off! But, it looks like we’re coming up on the finish line of job and computer problems both! Hallelujah! I’d like to comment quickly that through some of Deb’s stories she’s told in earlier columns, some of which were about Red and his “mean little self.” Again that young’un sure could stay in trouble as one child…he couldn’t even walk by it! With his nickname of Red, I hung on him because when smaller he did have a reddish tint, not really, really red, but you could see the red in his hair pretty prominently though! As I had three girls when I first met Deb, and she had Josh and Red, I always called him, “my red-headed stepchild!” I did too! Ole Red was always a pretty good sport, though and people can’t help but like him. He’s got a great personality for sure, and the man always has. Our customers absolutely love him, and I tell you what. I’d put Red up against most anybody when it comes to work, he’s literally a “workin’ Trojan!” He can turn it out, and honesty, when you’re on the wrong end of an asphalt lute rake or shovel, you can separate the men from the boys, right now! I’m not saying this because he’s our son and I’m proud of him. I’m saying it, because that’s just how it is, but I am proud of him. That’s how my Grandfather raised my Dad, he raised me that way, and I in turn passed it on to Red. Not many kids today are raised that way anymore, and really it’s sad, simply because our Country as a whole has come to view unfavorably such work ethics! Before I step off into a political rant, oh believe me I can, and do, let me start closing this out by saying this. It’s not just Mark in our family that has this outlook, it’s literally all our kids, boys and girls! With this being the case, let me stop and say to all our children, thanks, guys, for turning out the way you all have! It’s literally a pleasure to share with others that you are in fact are our children! We couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of kids, and we’re proud of each and every one of you! You’re all fine, fine children, and your Mama's and I love you all. This will do it for us this time in Ridin' Out the Recession! Tell your kids you love them, and come back to visit with us just as often as you’d like! God Bless you all! Keep your eyes open and your nose in the wind! Dub out! How bout a little joke…I needed one, thank ya’! A Hillbilly went hunting one day in Georgia and bagged three ducks.  He put them in the bed of his pickup truck and was about to drive home when he was confronted by an ornery game warden who didn't like hillbillies.

The game warden ordered the hillbilly to show his hunting license; the hillbilly pulled out a valid Georgia hunting license.

The game warden looked at the license, then reached over and picked up one of the ducks, sniffed its butt, and said, 'This duck ain't from Georgia. This is a Tennessee duck.  You got a Tennessee huntin' license, boy?'

The hillbilly reached in to his wallet and produced a Tennessee hunting license.

The game warden looked at it, then reached over and grabbed the second duck, sniffed its butt, and said 'This ain't no Tennessee duck. This duck's From Mississippi.  You got a Mississippi license?'

The hillbilly reached into his wallet and produced a Mississippi hunting license.

The warden then reached over and picked up the third duck, sniffed its butt, and said,

'This ain't no Mississippi duck.  This here duck's from South Carolina .. You got a South Carolina huntin' license?'

Again the hillbilly reached into his wallet and brought out a South Carolina hunting license.

The game warden was extremely frustrated at this point, and he yelled at the hill billy, 'Boy, just where the hell are you from?'

The hillbilly turned around, dropped his pants, bent over, and said, 'You tell me.  You're the expert.'

Dub and Deb——

‘Ridin Out The Recession With Dub and Deb in “Miz Judi’s Kitchen’!

Note to Readers: There are a few things that Dub doesn’t know but one thing he does know is that the word ‘Riding’ (as in Riding Out the Recession) is spelled with a ‘g’ at the end.  But Dub not only walks the walk, but speaks like he is: down home, true blue, and plain speakin’ country folk.

Dub and Deb are both native Floridians, live in Central Florida, and run a small business as well. They have five children, and seven grandchildren.

Both love to cook, love to laugh, grow a garden, and generally try to “aggravate” most anyone around them basically…all in good fun, of course!
