Why do the media keep referring to the Russian takeover of Crimea and Ukraine as though they were both in the same category?
Crimea has always been Russian, it was only ceded to Ukraine by Nikita Khrushchev, himself a Ukrainian, when the USSR was still a Communist entity. Ukraine is different, it's being torn apart by a civil war, and Russia is taking sides. The U.S. best be careful in confronting Russia in its own sphere of influence. Think of the Monroe Doctrine. Russia is a wounded bear, and a wounded bear is very, very dangerous.
