Sabrina Maddeaux: Trudeau Liberals have given judges license to go easy on rapists

(National Post) Canada is now a country where someone can rape a woman and serve out his sentence in relative comfort at home. This week, a Quebec court judge gave a 20-month suspended sentence, the first 14 months of which will be served under house arrest, to a man who nonconsensually sodomized his former girlfriend, anally raping her despite her protests.

The shockingly light sentence is just one in a trend of sexual assault cases across Canada ending with no prison time for offenders. In October, a Yukon man convicted of molesting two young girls — just sevenand 10 years old — received a conditional sentence that he will serve at home. ---More...
