As the Schiff show trial continues in the Swamp, this paraphrase of Ernest Hemingway will apply. Ask not for whom the gavel falls; it falls for Paul Ryan.

Schiff’s gavel that silences Republicans is Paul Ryan’s

Schiff’s gavel that silences Republicans is Paul Ryan’sEach of Adam Schiff’s gavel strikes, that silences Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee’s Inquiry into an Impeachment of President Trump, drives home the failure of the former Republican Speaker of the House to support Trump. Paul Ryan helped put that gavel into Schiff’s hand. Before, during, and after Trump’s election, Paul Ryan was, and continues to be, a dedicated NeverTrumper.

As the Republican Speaker of the House, Ryan offered, at best, tepid support for the President’s agenda

Democrat Party efforts to discredit Trump began immediately after his 2016 election. The Resistance shifted into high gear the day of his Inauguration, then picked up speed as it accelerated through several failed efforts to mortally damage and remove the President from office. Even before the election, Ryan counseled Republican members of Congress to “vote their consciences” in the upcoming Presidential election. That was Paul’s version of a non-endorsement endorsement of the Trump candidacy, even after Trump had become the party’s nominee. As the Republican Speaker of the House in 2017-2018, Ryan offered, at best, tepid support for his party’s President’s agenda. During the first two years of the Trump’s Presidency, Ryan successfully moved a tax-cut bill through the House with a Republican majority, but did little else to advance the Trump agenda. He offered limp support for building “The Wall,” or for reducing Obamacare—key Trump campaign promises. The Republican loss of the majority in the House of Representatives was not due to Republican voters’ disfavor with Trump.

It was, in part, an expression of their collective dissatisfaction with their party’s weak efforts to support their new President. GOP voters saw that the agenda of the President was not receiving needed and sufficient support from the Republican Speaker of the House. Ryan’s inclination, while in Congress, to damn with faint praise Donald Trump has, now that he has surrendered that platform, became clear after joining a big media outlet. A September 26, 2019 article in Business Insider, entitled “Former House Speaker Paul Ryan reportedly wants to use his position on Fox's [Corporate] board [since last March] to 'do something' about Trump,” quotes Vanity Fair concerning Ryan’s current opinion toward Trump.
“Former House Speaker Paul Ryan thinks his new job as a board member of Fox Corporation will finally allow him to ‘do something’ about President Donald Trump, according to a new report in Vanity Fair. Paul is embarrassed about Trump, and now he has the power to do something about it, a Fox executive told Vanity Fair. Ryan has been openly critical of Trump since leaving Congress. In several on-the-record interviews for the Politico correspondent Tim Alberta's book, ‘American Carnage,’ Ryan didn't mince words about Trump, saying he wanted to ‘scold’ Trump ‘all the time’."

A Republican President doesn’t need Democrat opposition as long as there are Republican politicians like Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney et al

If you, too, have noticed moves by Fox News to step back from Trump, it likely reflects Ryan’s influence in “pushing Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch to transition Fox News and pivot away from Trump”. A Republican President doesn’t need Democrat opposition as long as there are Republican politicians like Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney and a few other prominent, current and past, GOP bell cows who, at best, grunt support for their President. And, at worse, bellow offensively. The depth and demeanor of the Deep State—a term once ridiculed by non-believers as being in the tinfoil-hat category—is now a recognized entity. We see, from these impeachment hearings, how it permeates the U.S. Department of State, as we earlier learned how it controls the U.S. Department of Justice, and the once sacrosanct “Intelligence Community”. As the Schiff show trial continues in the Swamp, this paraphrase of Ernest Hemingway will apply. Ask not for whom the gavel falls; it falls for Paul Ryan.
