11 Commandments of Progressivism

Schmaltziest video ever begs for President Liz Warren

You will not be able to stop laughing. As I watch these eager leftists clamoring for a Warren presidency, this strikes me: They are desperate for a president who will tell the rich that they didn't get that way on their own because everyone needs roads and bridges. They insist on a president who will clamp down on Wall Street with new rules and regulations. They want a president who will do something about the planet warming! Oh, and "all the lobbyist grifting," whatever that means.

So yeah. The left has been waiting a long time for a president like that, right? Elizabeth Warren is so exciting to them, she's inspiring anthems. Yep. We haven't heard anything like that in forever. Swallow any liquids you're drinking and then watch: I want to say liberals never learn - that Obama's failures haven't taught them not to invest such hope of national transformation in a figure they see as charismatic (and, of course, far far left) - but on that score I'm not entirely sure conservatives don't share the delusion. At any rate, if you want to get a sense of what make Warren so appealing to folks like this, check out what the National Journal calls her "11 Commandments of Progressivism":

11 Commandments of Progressivism

  • "We believe that Wall Street needs stronger rules and tougher enforcement, and we're willing to fight for it."
  • "We believe in science, and that means that we have a responsibility to protect this Earth."
  • "We believe that the Internet shouldn't be rigged to benefit big corporations, and that means real net neutrality."
  • "We believe that no one should work full-time and still live in poverty, and that means raising the minimum wage."
  • "We believe that fast-food workers deserve a livable wage, and that means that when they take to the picket line, we are proud to fight alongside them."
  • "We believe that students are entitled to get an education without being crushed by debt."
  • "We believe that after a lifetime of work, people are entitled to retire with dignity, and that means protecting Social Security, Medicare, and pensions."
  • "We believe—I can't believe I have to say this in 2014—we believe in equal pay for equal work."
  • "We believe that equal means equal, and that's true in marriage, it's true in the workplace, it's true in all of America."
  • "We believe that immigration has made this country strong and vibrant, and that means reform."
  • "And we believe that corporations are not people, that women have a right to their bodies. We will overturn Hobby Lobby and we will fight for it. We will fight for it!"
I actually think this list deserves a more detailed analysis, and I think I may do that later on today pending other news developments, but here's the common theme: All these desired outcomes, which on the surface most would say they agree with to some degree, would be ours today if only we had political leaders who would act to make them reality. That, of course, in addition to phony-baloney dichotomies like corporations-as-people vs. women-sacrifice-their-bodies. Warren gives the appearance of being highly intellectual, but when you look at her view of the problems and what she thinks the solutions are, it's a pretty conventional left wing view of victims vs. villians in which the victims' only hope is government heroism. Didn't we, at some point, have a president just like that? Pretty sure this is ringing a bell, although I think whoever it was stopped governing a long time ago and these days just goes on burger runs and appears at the occasional fundraiser. I'm not sure. Then again, as the song says, Americans want our next president to be a woman! I guess that's why the faithful want Liz to step up. Otherwise, the prospects are not too appealing, eh?
