The U.S. has thousands of troops based, unnecessarily, abroad. Now that the Cold War is over, there is no need for U.S. troops in Europe, Britain, France and Germany are well able to protect themselves.
South Korea needs American help in case of a North Korean invasion, but the U.S only needs an airbase there. Kim Jong un knows that if he invades South Korea, the U.S. would vaporize his hapless gulag of a country in a heartbeat. overseas U.S. troops could be brought home and stationed along the U.S.-Mexican Border where, in addition to their regular training, they could secure the area better than a useless wall.
