Slouching Toward Gomorrah

Slouching Toward GomorrahThat was the title of a book written by the late Judge Robert H. Bork, whose thesis was that the U.S. and more generally Western culture was in a state of decline and that the cause of this decline was modern liberalism and the rise of the new left.
How prophetic was Judge Bork in 1996, when he wrote that book. Today, we see what he was talking about; the legalization of abortion, especially late term abortion; the decriminalization of most all drugs; affirmative action and the imposition of reverse discrimination; the increase of violence in the mass media and in the motion picture industry and music industry; the misapplication of militant feminism; and the increase of the “politics of personal destruction” mainly on the part of the “left”; the decline in religious observance etc., etc. All have contributed to our society “Slouching Toward Gomorrah”. Look around you, you see a concerted attack upon our culture, mainly coming from the radical left. Starting with the publication of Saul Alinsky's “Rules for Radicals” in the early 1970s, the quest for political power and the theory of “the end justifies the means”, the slow erosion of our culture seems to have picked up speed over the past decade. It seems people today do not respect each other like in the past. Differing points of views are frowned upon by certain segments of our population. Many people today forgo friendships if a friend has a differing point of view, especially in the area of politics. Look what has happened in the world of politics since Donald Trump was elected president in 2016. His election was a phenomenon in our political history. All during the run up to the election, it was the universal opinion of the 95% of the media that Hillary Clinton would win the presidency in a landslide. Most polls predicted a Clinton win with the exception of McClatchy News and Investor's Business Daily.

From the day Trump was elected, he has faced a negative onslaught like no other president has had to endure. This visceral animosity by the Democrats and the media has led to investigation after investigation which finally produced partisan Articles of Impeachment by the Democrat House of Representatives. This was a totally one-sided exercise with no Republicans voting for this partisan “inquisition”. In addition to this highly partisan vendetta against a sitting president, we have a major social problem facing many of our big cities. Murder, rape, and other violent crimes are rampant, mainly in the inner cities of Baltimore, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, New Orleans etc. Concurrently, we have an enormous homeless population causing havoc in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland (Oregon), New York. One of the major causes of these problems stem from the lax enforcement of the law by our feckless politicians. The one common denominator in most of these troubled cities is that they are all run by Democrats. People in power randomly use highly volatile terms like racism, bigotry, Fascism, when referring to their opponents thus causing more conflict instead of trying to diffuse the differences between competing philosophies. Unless you can control this toxic environment, we will be “slouching toward Gomorrah” as Judge Bork predicted in his book. May God bless America.
