George Zimmerman has been acquitted of a crime which was deliberately and hopelessly intertwined with the race of Trayvon Martin. The lynch mob media out for Zimmerman engaged in behavior which may well be truly criminal: NBC News edited the transcript of the 911 call of Zimmerman to deliberately make him appear to be a racist, as was reported last December, and so interfered with a criminal investigation. The evidence against Zimmerman, outside a phony racial angle, was absurdly weak.
But even more Kafkaesque was what former District Attorney Mike Nifong did in the Duke Lacrosse case seven years ago. After the end of his persecution of the Duke students, he finally admitted that there was “no credible evidence” that they had committed any crime. Even worse, many of the Duke faculty members who felt obliged with no evidence at all to publicly condemn the Duke Lacrosse players remain utterly unrepentant.
This is part of a long and horrific pattern which now spans decades. Eighteen years ago, O.J. Simpson was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, with pandering to black racism the principal theme of the defense. A wrongful death civil action who later determine that Simpson did murder Nicole and Ron, so it is hardly slanderous to proclaim Simpson as the murderer – a civil court has found him so – and Simpson’s proclivity to crime ultimately wound him up in prison, but the awful reality that a murderer got away with murder when the whole sane world new he was guilty, as some manifestation of “social justice,” is horror enough.
Twenty-one years ago, four black brutes savagely beat and maimed Reginald Denny for the crime of being white. Denny’s attackers were tried but the jury was hung for all but two, one of whom was released for time served and the other, Damien Williams, was convicted, sentenced to ten years, released in four years for good behavior, and then convicted of murdering a drug dealer.
Five years before that, Tawana Brawley invented rape claims which dragged several men through Hell for no reason other than that they were white. Although she and Sharpton, the hate-mongering “minister” who became famous by supporting her phony claims, eventually ended up with civil money judgments against them, Brawley and her allies were no convicted of any crimes.
Lurking behind these outrages is the notion that “social justice” demanded that innocent people, because of their race, were guilty. Somehow “social justice” has gained merit in the eyes of otherwise normal people. Yet social justice is always simply injustice. No one ought ever to forget that the Holocaust was based upon the Nazi argument of social grievances against the Western Allies, against the Soviets and, most horribly, against Jews. Before the Holocaust, Stalin had exterminated perhaps twenty million souls in the Holomodor, a crime in detail and in its whole as ghastly as the Holocaust – again in the name of “social justice.”
A descent into the nightmare of militant social justice, which is precisely what some seems to be seeking now, is also an incredibly dangerous game. Understanding this requires a sober and honest examination of why blacks in American have equal rights and why women in America have such incredibly high status: white men surrendered power in the interest of what most Americans saw was right.
We need look no farther than the Taliban in Afghanistan to understand the sort of power that men exercise over women in a society in which force rules or view the prisons of Pakistan, where huge percentages of women in prison are there for the “crime” of being raped. In China prenatal infanticide of young girls exterminates millions of females each year for no crime greater than their gender.
We need look no farther than Darfur to grasp what the exercise of real racial muscle against less numerous and powerful race can do or ask the Tibetans and the Uyghurs what a Han Chinese majority can do if that majority imposes its own notion of social justice.
The peace and happiness which flows from individual justice, regardless of race or gender, requires that the foul potion of “social justice” be consigned to the same netherworld as “Jewish science” or “capitalist values.” Justice is always and exclusively individual. Those who forget that, those who act as if whole stretches of humanity are good or bad according to race or gender, destroy justice and gamble that in terrible wounds of social civil war, they will win. They won’t, of course: everyone will lose.
