Something Not To Worry About Other Than COVID-19: Siberia's High Temperature

Greenland hasn't been showing signs of warming since man- made CO2 started rapidly rising after World War II

Siberia's High TemperatureIn climate change, only hot temperatures qualify as climate. Cold temperatures are just weather. This was the opening sentence in an earlier report on high temperatures in Greenland and Antarctica getting headlines, while cold temperatures were ignored. 1 Now the same can be written about Siberia. Here is what Bridget Read wrote recently, "Not that you don't have a lot on your mind already, but may I suggest one additional topic of alarm for consideration: Siberia is on fire." 2

"Snow in summer? Where's the 'climate change' outrage?

Here's an even scarier scenario from Seth Borenstein: Nearly impossible without man-made global warming, the Siberian heat wave is producing climate change's most flagrant footprint of extreme weather, a new flash study says. A two week study found the greenhouse effect multiplied the chance of the region's prolonged heat by at least 600 times, and maybe tens of thousands of times. The study, which has not gone through peer review, looked at Siberia from January to June, including a day that hit 100 degrees F (38 C).  3 Others in the media also highlighted this issue. If only they had waited for two more weeks! To spare you reading all the following information, here's the point to make: Verkhoyansk became a poster child for climate change on June 19 and 20 because of a high temperature. On July 7 they had abnormal cold and enough snow to build snowmen and the locals were huddling around fires wondering where that 38C record went. 4 Anthony Watts pointed out how absurd this all was, especially since it also happened 100 years ago, before the climate change was even a glimmer in leftists eyes. And, because with 24 hour sunlight at the peak of the summer solstice, the area is bound to get hot, because there's no 'night' to cool off. Of course, that didn't stop opportunistic trough-feeding scientists from taking advantage of the situation, claiming it was all part of a disturbing pattern.   "Snow in summer? Where's the 'climate change' outrage? Oh, right, it only applies if it's hot and there's a roasting visual to accompany the narrative for mindless media regurgitators," notes Anthony Watts. 5

Climate alarmists often claim Canada is warming twice as fast as the globe

What about the rest of the Arctic? We keep hearing how the ice at the poles is supposedly disappearing rapidly, yet a look at the latest data  show  this is is not the case. Polar ice has remained steady for the last decades. 6 In April 2020, the Northern Hemisphere experienced its 2nd largest 2-month drop in temperature in the 497-month satellite record. 7 Though climate alarmists often claim Canada is warming twice as fast as the globe, the real untampered data show the 5 of 9 stations in Canada for which complete data exist, have had no warming trend in the month of March since 1986. Additionally, only one station shows a warming trend since 1998. Spring seems to be taking more time to arrive in Canada. 6 Antarctica Antarctic ice has in fact trended upwards since satellite measurement began 40 years ago. Temperature stations along the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula indicate 'marked statistically significant cooling' has occurred since 1991, with the Larsen Ice Shelf cooling at a rate of -1.1C per decade. 8 Greenland Greenland hasn't been showing signs of warming since man- made CO2 started rapidly rising after World War II. Indeed Greenland has been not responding to CO2 for 140 years or maybe a million, reports Joanne Nova. 9

Jack Dini——

John William Dini, know to all as ‘Jack’, passed away at the age of 89 on June 17, 2026. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Nov. 14, 1936.

He published two books, a technical book on materials science and coatings and another on environmental issues. In retirement, he wrote extensively on various environmental issues for online publications.

He was a skilled leaded glass hobbyist, creating more than 20 lamps and many panels. He was a jogger for many years, competing in over 300 long distance races. He was a slow runner, not wanting to take the glory away from others. His secret was to start slow and taper. He and Anne traveled extensively, visiting over 70 countries.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, of 67 years, and sons Mike, Steve, and Paul. If you were to meet him somewhere, he would sum up his life as ‘peaches and cream’.
