Standing up for internal safety and civility—it's just right

Greetings fellow fighters for safety and civility!

I hail from the mobilization wing of the Black community regarding crime, the wing that gave us the fabled 1980s Dopebusters, crusaders like legends Herman Wrice and principal Joe Clark and modern formations of Black men and allies doing safety outreach, mediating potentially deadly disputes, mentoring youth in need of guidance and offering self defense training on safe, lawful firearms possession.

Liberals and conservatives aren't comfortable with the concept of brothers taking the lead in addressing safety issues uniquely impacting us. Communal self defense is outside of Democratic and Republican comfort zones because they don't see a way to politically benefit from such tactical independence.

As a self described "safety creator," I'm well acquainted with cold shoulder or hot anger from officials awaiting Black men active in displacing crime and disorder in our community.

Some long standing groups like Concerned Black Men and Mad Dads, have forged relationships with local politicians and corporate leaders in cities where they're active.

I'm a fan of both organizations but lean more toward Black nationalist community safety formations like Peace Keepers, 10,000 Fearless, New Era Detroit and its national network and Lion of Judah Armed Forces who combat internal violence and lack of respect for boundaries on the streets instead of from office suites.

These entities make a point well worth repeating this presidential election season: brothers can be to the so-called "right" on crime without being "far right" (misperceived as anti Black) toward our community.

Standing up for internal safety and civility isn't a stand arising from membership in an outside political party.

It just means we're doing right by lives around us.
