Now the line in the sand has been drawn, Texas Gov. Rick Perry

States of Independence!

When I suggested that American states think about secession in light of an ever dominant and oppressive federal government intruding into state’s rights, I hoped that at least one state would lead the way. Leave it to Texas, the Lone Star State, to take the first bold step to thwart the socialistic moves of Washington. This story broke on several wire services and on the Drudge report……

Texas Gov. Rick Perry joined sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.” A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.
The Federal government was never intended to be so invasive, so controlling, and so over reaching. There are those who argue that the nature and business of America has become so interconnected that ‘states rights’ are now limited and in effect impotent. Political power was designed to move from the local to the state and then to the federal level, and has actually been turned upside down. We have moved so far from our Constitutional reason that it may be impossible to return to the original intent of the founding fathers. And a return to that kind of common sense is exactly what the Left fear. Now the line in the sand has been drawn. It will be interesting to see what other states decide to stand alongside Texas in telling Washington that enough is enough.
