After all, the Swamp Guards are of the people, and why would they continue to defend the indefensible governing classes?

Swamp Guards: Updated

Swamp Guards: UpdatedThe history of control freaks going, well, out of control and imposing hardship upon ordinary folk dates back to Ancient Egypt. Eventually with the governing classes living and promising well as those lower down were facing the threat of famine the iniquities inspired popular uprisings. Some in deposing the pharaoh and his priestly advisors have been called dynastic collapses, resulting in more democratic food distribution. There have been many such successful popular uprisings whereby tyrannical but lush-living governments were reformed, not by intellectuals but by ordinary people

A strong "No!" based upon commonsense has driven the Left to street tantrums--unrelenting--day and night

The most recent example occurred in 1989 when ordinary East Germans brought down the Berlin Wall, which was followed by the collapse of communist governments around the world. As exciting and profound as that reformation was, authoritarians turned to the environment as a means of exerting control and then came up with the hysteria about "Global Warming". Which along with the hysteria about COVID has enabled the greatest reduction in freedom in America's history. However, no matter what the propaganda is, the result is in-your-face and in-your-wallet government and for ordinary folk it is becoming "too much" and a practical and much needed opposition is developing. And a strong "No!" based upon commonsense has driven the Left to street tantrums--unrelenting--day and night. History includes that some popular uprisings were benign and eventually added up to a great reformation. Authoritarians went mad during the 1500s and accomplished a Tyrannical Century when ambitious bureaucrats corrupted the Church into a venal and murderous police state.

Popular uprisings have always been inspired by the iniquities of the governing classes

The religious side has been called the Protestant Reformation, but the more secular side has been described as the Enlightenment. Under either heading, its wonderful progress is best followed in England. Northern Europeans suffered the Thirty Years' War, which was brutal. While nominally Catholic vs Protestant, it was essentially servitude and poverty vs freedom and prosperity, with thankfully the latter eventually winning. Popular uprisings have always been inspired by the iniquities of the governing classes living well as ordinary folk suffered inegalitarian hardships. And thanks to the record of floods and famines in Ancient Egypt there has been a recurring factor in bringing down a dynasty or two as well as fast-forwarding to the Berlin Wall.  In the 1970s, highly regarded Harvard astronomer Barbara Bell published her research on climate cooling in Ancient Egypt, which forced a series of poor harvests. Failing enough to threaten famine and with the governing classes living well it inspired an uprising that took down authoritarian government. And the clash was fascinating. To use a recent political term, the nomenklatura were protected by the Palace Guards and as Bell pointed out they were of the people, not of the governing classes. So, when push came to shove, the Palace Guards laid down their spears and joined, overthrowing the control freaks. With this in mind,  during the 1980s uprisings in Eastern Europe this writer was watching for something similar, and it occurred in late 1989 when East German Border Guards laid down their machine guns. And doubtlessly smiling East Germans went cross-border shopping. It is worth noting that the control freaks called the Berlin Wall the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart", the only wall built to keep the good guys in.

Fortunately, there is an equivalent for those protecting the politically privileged: "Swamp Guards"

To use a cliché, the genie was out of the bottle and after a few days of confusion Dictator Honecker changed the law requiring the state to murder Germans attempting to go from one part of Germany to another. One of the most important reforms ever. And now another is needed and is rumbling along, quite likely as iniquities continue to grow it could accelerate. So, it is important to look for the equivalent to "Palace" or "Border" Guards, which terms do not apply today. Fortunately, there is an equivalent for those protecting the politically privileged: "Swamp Guards". The label was published in Canada Free Press as "Swamp Guards Suddenly Laying Down Weapons" on November1, 2020. The article noted that somewhat liberal but Pulitzer journalist Glenn Greenwald had left the news site he started. It seems that very Left colleagues on his site began censoring his essays.

Greenwald took his integrity as an investigative journalist with him and my article ended by noting there would be others who, in recognizing the corruption of the "Swamp", would cease guarding it. Perhaps even criticizing it. A very early example of conversion has been David Horowitz. Born in 1939 to communist parents in New York City, he was a "red diaper baby" and remained a commie until well out of college. Indeed, he spent time with the radical Black Panther Party while he was editing "New Left" publications. Eventually he examined and rejected the Left and its varied banners and in 1986 published "Why I Am No Longer a Leftist". He has since been "conservative" which of course is today's nineteenth century "liberalism", supporting individual freedom and limited government. More recently, some journalists could be changing. Last Summer, the Washington Post headlined " Rand Paul Was Right, Fauci Wrong". The columnist was Joe Rogin. In November, Mark Theisen also at the WaPo headlined "Democrats Are Lying About Critical Race Theory". Is this a conversion? Too early to tell, but you don't have to be a conservative to value critical journalism.

"Maher Tells the Wokes and America Haters to cut it out"

Last August, hitherto conditioned leftist Bill Maher was headlined by the Independent Sentinel "Maher Tells the Wokes and America Haters to cut it out". Adding to this, in the middle of November the New York Times asked "Who is to blame for inflation?", and clearly laid the blame: "You can draw a direct line from a specific policy decision that Biden and the Democrats made…to the inflation that is happening now." Unrelenting support for Dems could be changing. Gale-force winds of Leftist can't have corrupted the popular media, and within this some could be looking to their posterity and wondering about honest journalism. After all, the Swamp Guards are of the people, and why would they continue to defend the indefensible governing classes?

Bob Hoye——

Bob Hoye (BobHoye.com) has been researching investments for decades, which eventually included the history of financial and political markets. He considers now to be the most fascinating time for both since the Great Reformation of the 1600s.  Bob casts a caustic eye on all promotions and, having a degree in geophysics, is severely critical of the audacity that a committee can “manage” not just the economy, but also the temperature of the nearest planet. He has had articles published in major financial journals and, as a speaker, has amused assemblies in a number of cities, from London to Zurich to Tokyo.
