Spring Football Games: Both the Florida A&M University and Florida State University host not-to-miss annual spring football games.
Opening Nights: A recognized high point on Tallahassee’s cultural calendar, this performing arts series spans January-April with 25 shows at eight different venues. Opening Nights provides performances from Grammy Award-winning artists and Pulitzer-Prize winning authors to Broadway composers and Jazz legends. Performances during the spring include:
- Danú (March 2): Acclaimed traditional Irish ensemble
- Miloš Karadaglić (March 16): Nationally recognized classical guitar virtuoso
- Itzhak Perlman and Rohan De Silva (March 19): Award-winning violinist and pianist
- Raisin’ Cane (March 26): A Harlem renaissance musical starring Jasmine Guy & The Avery Sharpe Trio
- Steep Canyon Rangers & Della Mae (April 6): A combination of two bluegrass bands
- Diana Krall Wallflower World Tour (April 8): Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and singer
Downtown MarketPlace: Every Saturday from March through November from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Tallahassee’s Downtown MarketPlace provides fresh, organic produce, baked goods, local artwork and entertainment.
Pink Floyd Experience: The Pink Floyd Experience is a multi-million dollar laser and light show concert that brings to life why Pink Floyd is one of rock and roll’s greatest idols.
Red Hills International Horse Trials: Held at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park, the Red Hills International Horse Trials, March 6-8, feature the world’s greatest riders and horses, including Olympic athletes from around the globe competing in dressage, cross country and stadium jumping.
Springtime Tallahassee: As one of the largest festivals in the Southeast, Springtime Tallahassee kicks off Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. with a music festival and beer garden, featuring Grammy Award nominee Eli Young Band at Kleman Plaza. Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, the Grand Parade through downtown features floats, marching bands, dance troupes and costumed characters. Additional highlights include Jubilee in the Park, Children’s Park, arts and crafts, food vendors, and local and national entertainment.
Avett Brothers Concert: On April 10 at 6 p.m., the 2013 Grammy Award-nominee group for Best Americana Album, The Avett Brothers, headline at The Capital City Amphitheater at Cascades Park. In 13 years of performing and touring, the band appeared on popular television shows such as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live and debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 in 2012 for The Carpenter album.
Word of South: On April 11 - 12, a unique blend of writers and musicians and an exploration of the relationship between the two disciplines will take place on four different stages at Cascades Park. The festival will showcase authors who write about music, musicians who are also authors, and everything in between.
Southern Shakespeare Festival: Hosted at The Capital City Amphitheater at Cascades Park April 17 - 19, the Southern Shakespeare Festival promotes the arts and knowledge of the Elizabethan era with a mixture of Renaissance culture and 60s memories through entertainment, demonstrations, and live music every night prior to the show, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 5:30 p.m. The final day of the festival is a full day celebration with vendors, music, children’s activities and appearances by Sonnet Man, a hip-hop version of Shakespeare’s sonnets.
LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival: Tallahassee’s downtown chain of parks hosts an art festival April 18 – 19 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. that features live entertainment, food from local restaurants, and original works of art by more than 150 local and regional artists.
Tallahassee Jazz and Blues Festival: The Tallahassee Museum presents lively jazz, Dixieland, Zydeco, swing, and rhythm and blues under the trees April 25 - 26. Highlights also include fun family activities on the pioneer farm and at Bellevue Plantation.
Wilco Concert: The acclaimed Chicago sextet, Wilco, extends its 20th anniversary tour to The Capital City Amphitheater at Cascade Park on April 26 at 5:30 p.m. The two-time Grammy Award-winning band was highlighted by the Chicago Tribune as “bold, imaginative and vibrant” for their diverse and ever-changing set lists.
Capital Cuisine Restaurant Week & Concert Series: Celebrating the diverse selection of dining and the city’s growing reputation as a culinary destination, this May 14 - 26 event allows patrons to explore the tastes of the area’s most popular eateries. Participating restaurants offer prix fixe menus featuring two and three-course meals for lunch and dinner.
Emancipation Day Celebration: The Knott House and John G. Riley House Museum annually commemorate the declaration of the Emancipation Proclamation in Tallahassee. Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the event on May 20, featuring a live reenactment of the reading at the Knott House, complimentary lunch on the lawn, period music, speeches and costumed entrepreneurs.
