The Muslim immigrant from Uzbekistan accused of carrying out Tuesday’s terror attack in Manhattan entered court Wednesday evening in a wheelchair, handcuffed and with his feet shackled, to face terrorism charges filed against him by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29, wore a gray shirt and was surrounded by five guards while in his wheelchair inside a New York federal courthouse after he was charged with providing material support to a terrorist group and committing violence and destruction of motor vehicles.—More…

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Federal prosecutors announced late Wednesday afternoon that terror charges were filed against the suspected assailant in Tuesday’s attack in Lower Manhattan that left eight people dead.

“Yesterday afternoon, a man consumed by hate and a twisted ideology attacked our country and our city,” said Joon Kim, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.—More..

  • Saipov was charged with federal terrorism offences on Wednesday and now faces the death penalty

Terrorist behind deadly New York City attack had pledged loyalty to jihadist army

Investigators in New York City were left with a range of questions Tuesday after a driver plowed a pickup truck onto a bike path and into a crowd in Lower Manhattan, killing at least eight people and injuring 11.

Eight people are dead and 11 have been injured after a truck mounted a bicycle path in lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, mowing down cyclists and runners while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’.

The 29-year-old driver, named as Sayfull Saipov,  mounted the bicycle path at Houston Street at 3.05pm and drove 17 blocks downtown, knocking down victims before coming to a stop at Chambers Street where he eventually crashed in to a school bus.  —More…

NY Post—Up to six people were killed near Stuyvesant High School in lower Manhattan Tuesday afternoon in a wild incident that involved a truck ramming into victims on the West Side bike path, police sources said.
